GP - 2nd Friday Practice:
Mika Hakkinen sets the fastest time of the day ahead of David Coulthard and Rubens Barrichello. M Schumacher, Frentzen, Heidfeld, de la Rosa, R Schumacher, Trulli and Raikkonen make the top 10. 60 min: A few drivers are practicing starts at the end of the session. 58 min: The times will not improve any more but a number of drivers are on the track to check the conditions. 57 min: We have a wet track now and a few cars have already spun in the wet with Alonso off the track! 55 min: The track temperature is dropping so it is unlikely that we will see a lot of improvements in the final 5 minutes. 53 min: Jacques Villeneuve makes up a few places moving into 11th just ahead of Panis. 52 min: Top 10 - Hakkinen, Coulthard, Barrichello, M Schumacher, Frentzen, Heidfeld, de la Rosa, R Schumacher, Trulli and Raikkonen. 50 min: There is light rain on the track at the moment. The forecasts were correct! 49 min: It is unlikely that the 2 McLarens are running a lighter fuel load than the Ferrari but it is also unlikely that the Ferraris are over 0.7s seconds slower in similar trim - Strange! 48 min: Olivier Panis improves to 11th, 1.7 seconds off the pace. 47 min: Mika Hakkinen takes the top spot from his team-mate with a time of 1:22.827. 45 min: Villeneuve improves again but is still in 17th. His team-mate Panis is in 12th while Trulli is 9th and Frentzen in 5th (comparing the Honda powered cars) 44 min: Rubens Barrichello improves to 3rd ahead of his team-mate with a time of 1:23.578. 43 min: Pedro de la Rosa jumps into 7th with a time of 1:24.116. Impressive if he is not running a lighter fuel load! 42 min: Top 10 - Coulthard, Hakkinen, M Schumacher, Barrichello, Frentzen, Heidfeld, R Schumacher, Trulli, Raikkonen and Irvine. 40 min: Villeneuve improves marginally as he is way down in 17th place! 39 min: Jean Alesi moves up to 12th place with a 1:24.832. He is just under 2 seconds off the pace. 37 min: Rubens Barrichello improves to 4th with a time of 1:23.652 just behind his team-mate. 35 min: Alonso spins but recovers. 34 min: Not much activity with just a few cars on the track. It seems that teams are anticipating rain at any time! 33 min: No, he lost some time in the second sector. Meanwhile Fisichella is now in 21st place! 32 min: Michael Schumacher is on the track and looking set to improve! 30 min: It is dry but threatening to rain at any moment! 28 min: Top 10 - Coulthard, Hakkinen, M Schumacher, Frentzen, Heidfeld, R Schumacher, Barrichello, Trulli, Raikkonen and Irvine. 27 min: Ralf Schumacher improves to 6th place with a time of 1:24.222. Montoya improves to 13th place with a time of 1:25.267. 26 min: At the moment Fisichella is in last place with a time of 1:28.213. That is 5.3 seconds off the pace! 25 min: Nick Heidfeld improves further moving into 5th. He is 1.2 seconds off the pace. 24 min: Nick Heidfeld has caught up with his team-mate improving to 8th just behind Raikkonen. 23 min: Pedro de la Rosa finally sets his first timed lap of the day with a time of 1:26.799 22 min: The quick drop in lap times might be due to the teams running on lighter fuel loads early in the session fearing that it could rain soon. 21 min: David Coulthard goes fastest with a time of 1:22.894. That is 0.5 seconds faster than Hakkinen in 2nd. 20 min: Frentzen moves into 3rd place with a time of 1:23.877. The only driver other than Mika and Michael to clock a time in the 1:23's. Impressive! 19 min: Top 10 - Hakkinen, M Schumacher, Barrichello, Trulli, Raikkonen, Coulthard, R Schumacher, Irvine, Panis and Frentzen. 18 min: Eddie Irvine takes 8th from Panis. The Michelin runners appear to be doing better this session. 17 min: Fernando Alonso up in 16th place. He is over 3 seconds off the pace. 17 min: Olivier Panis improves to 8th place with a time of 1:24.835 16 min: At this stage Hakkinen and Michael Schumacher are in a class of their own while Barrichello, Trulli, Raikkonen and Coulthard are just under a second behind! 15 min: Fisichella is back on the track 14 min: Jarno Trulli takes 3rd but Barrichello takes it from him moments later. 14 min: Villeneuve spins but recovers, he is currently down in 12th place. 13 min: Top 10 - Hakkinen, M Schumacher, Raikkonen, Coulthard, Barrichello, Trulli, R Schumacher, Frentzen, Montoya and Irvine. 13 min: Mika Hakkinen goes fastest with a time of 1:23.431! 12 min: Kimi Raikkonen jumps into 2nd! His time is a 1:24.387. Coulthard takes 3rd. 11 min: Ralf Schumacher moves into 5th with a time of 1:24.615. A sign of improvement from Williams. 10 min: Michael Schumacher on the track and already pushing! 9 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Hakkinen, Coulthard, Frentzen, Raikkonen, Irvine, Panis, Villeneuve and Montoya. 8 min: Kimi Raikkonen improves to 6th while Montoya is now in 10th place. 7 min: Jenson Button is the first to improve moving to 13th with a time of 1:26.367. 5 min: Giancarlo Fisichella returns to the pits. He seems to be having a bad day only managing 6 laps so far! 4 min: Frentzen, Raikkonen and Montoya are also on the track. No improvements so far. 2 min: Showers are forecast this afternoon and it could rain towards the end of the session! 1 min: Irvine, Villeneuve and Fisichella join Alonso on the track. Session underway and Fernando Alonso is the first car on the track this afternoon. Michael Schumacher set a stunning lap time during the first session of 1:23.619.
