Mika Hakkinen wins his first race of the season ahead of Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. Juan Pablo Montoya, Kimi Raikkonen, and Nick Heidfeld make the top 6.
Retirements: Trulli, Panis, Coulthard, Burti and Ralf Schumacher.

Ferrari are said to be using their qualifying engines for the race giving them an extra 20 hp. Formation lap underway!

The Michelin runners have not done too well here mainly due to the cold temperatures although Williams have also said that their car is not suited to the Silverstone track. Montoya is starting from 8th while Ralf starts from 10th - his worst qualifying position this season! Formation lap in 2 minutes.

The McLarens and Jordans were fast in the warm-up session while the Ferraris were not. This could indicate a different pit stop strategy for the teams. Formation lap in 5 minutes.
