British GP - Race

Michael Schumacher wins the British Grand Prix ahead of Rubens Barrichello and Juan Pablo Montoya. Jacques Villeneuve, Olivier Panis and Nick Heidfeld make the top 6.
Fisichella, R Schumacher, Massa, Coulthard, de la Rosa and Button make the rest of the field.
Retirements: Sato, Raikkonen, Trulli, Bernoldi, Irvine, Frentzen, Salo, Webber and McNish.

Lap 54: Michael Schumacher leads Rubens Barrichello by 20 seconds while Montoya is in 3rd 28 seconds behind Michael. All other drivers have been lapped!

Lap 53: It looks like all the top 3 drivers have settled their positions as their lap times have dropped.

Lap 52: Michael Schumacher continues to go faster setting a 1:23.826. Takuma Sato retires with an engine failure.

Lap 51: And Michael sets another fastest lap with a 1:23.960. Montoya told to slow down possibly to save his engine!

Lap 50: Michael Schumacher sets the fastest lap of the race with a 1:24.173

Lap 50/60: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Montoya, Villeneuve, Panis, Heidfeld, Fisichella, R Schumacher, Massa and Sato. Retirements: McNish, Webber, Salo, Frentzen, Irvine, Bernoldi, Trulli, Raikkonen.

Lap 49: Michael Schumacher still pushing and has a 17.6 second lead. Barrichello is now starting to ease away from Montoya.

Lap 48: Both Barrichello and Montoya lap Ralf Schumacher who is in 8th!

Lap 47: Now Montoya is chasing, a great battle for second between them!

Lap 46: Barrichello manages to get ahead of Montoya and retakes second. Kimi Raikkonen retires!

Lap 45: With 15 laps to go, Michael is 15 seconds ahead Montoya and Barrichello.

Lap 44: Barrichello is fighting Montoya for second. Meanwhile Michael is leading comfortably

Lap 44/60: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Montoya, Barrichello, Villeneuve, Panis, Heidfeld, Fisichella, R Schumacher, Massa and Raikkonen. Retirements: McNish, Webber, Salo, Frentzen, Irvine, Bernoldi, Trulli.

Lap 43: Michael Schumacher pits for dry tyres. He retains the lead

Lap 42: Michael Schumacher is 50 seconds ahead of Juan Pablo but is on intermediates and will have to stop.

Lap 41: And Juan Pablo passes him. Amazing!

Lap 41: Juan Pablo closing in on Barrichello!

Lap 40: Villeneuve makes his regular stop too.

Lap 40: A lot of pit activity. Barrichello pits and so does Montoya, both on dry tyres.

Lap 39: Ralf Schumacher who is on dry tyres is currently the fastest on the track.

Lap 38: Montoya has just lapped almost 3 seconds faster than the Ferraris!

Lap 37: Interestingly the gap between Michael and Montoya has stabilised at around 31 seconds! Ralf Schumacher is back in 10th place after his troubled stops!

Lap 36: Ralf Schumacher pits again after his re-fuelling problem earlier. He goes out on dry tyres. 

Lap 36: Of the top 6, only the 2 Ferraris have stopped for fuel. 

Lap 35/60: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Montoya, Villeneuve, Heidfeld, Panis, Fisichella, R Schumacher, Massa and Raikkonen. Retirements: McNish, Webber, Salo, Frentzen, Irvine, Bernoldi, Trulli.

Lap 34: Michael Schumacher leads Rubens Barrichello by 22 seconds with Montoya in 3rd 30 seconds behind Michael.

Lap 33: Now the rain has eased - for the moment and the sun is out!

Lap 32: Juan Pablo Montoya has yet to stop!

Lap 32: And Barrichello pits, he spun a couple of laps earlier but retained second.

Lap 32: Michael Schumacher pits and takes on intermediates and fuel!

Lap 31: Ralf Schumacher pits and they have a refuelling problem with him, they send him out!

Lap 31: Bernoldi spins and retires!

Lap 30/60: Halfway point - Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Montoya, R Schumacher, Villeneuve, Heidfeld, Massa, Panis, Fisichella and Raikkonen. Retirements: McNish, Webber, Salo, Frentzen, Irvine

Lap 29: And Massa spins again and this time Heidfeld moves into 6th.

Lap 28: Felipe Massa had no less than 4 spins already this race yet he is running in 6th place!

Lap 27: Raikkonen pits and gets intermediates!

Lap 27: Coulthard is spinning all over on dry tyres, he is last in 16th place.

Lap 26: And it is raining again. Bad news for McLaren and Renault who went for dry tyres. Williams aborted their planed stops.

Lap 26: The Michelin runners are struggling, their intermediates are failing them.

Lap 25: At the front, Michael Schumacher leads from Rubens Barrichello by 12 seconds. Montoya is in 3rd 28 seconds behind. Ralf Schumacher in 4th with Villeneuve in 5th.

Lap 25: It appears that some of the Michelin runners prefer dry tyres over the intermediates in these conditions. Irvine goes off and retires!

Lap 25: Kimi Raikkonen pits as well for dry tyres!

Lap 24: Coulthard pits and goes out on dry tyres!. The rain has eased but it is too early!

Lap 24: And Massa passes Coulthard for 10th!

Lap 23: Jacques Villeneuve takes 7th from Button while Felipe Massa gets ahead of Panis and is now in 11th.

Lap 22: Raikkonen manages to get ahead of Trulli. We are witnessing another rain master in Raikkonen.

Lap 22: Michael Schumacher continues to lap around 4 seconds faster than Montoya. Barrichello is closing the gap though!

Lap 22: Raikkonen is now closing in on Trulli for 4th!

Lap 21: Michael Schumacher now leads Rubens Barrichello by 12 seconds. Frentzen retires after a superb drive from 7th.

Lap 20: Although Kimi Raikkonen is doing superbly on the Michelins lapping much closer to the Ferraris.

Lap 19: And Barrichello takes second from Montoya. Most of the Michelin runners are struggling under these conditions.

Lap 19: Kimi Raikkonen takes 5th from Ralf Schumacher while Frentzen takes 7th from Button.

Lap 18/60: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Montoya, Barrichello, Trulli, R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Button, Frentzen, Villeneuve and Bernoldi. Retirements: McNish, Webber and Salo

Lap 17: Michael Schumacher last lap was almost 4 seconds faster than Montoya's!

Lap 16: Barrichello takes 3rd from Trulli and he'll soon get close to Montoya!

Lap 16: Michael Schumacher gets ahead of Montoya. The Bridgestone intermediates are superior to the Michelins.

Lap 15: So Montoya is in the lead on intermediates ahead of Michael Schumacher. Trulli is now in 3rd ahead of Barrichello. Coulthard finally pits!

Lap 14: Montoya manages to get ahead of Coulthard who is on dry tyres.

Lap 14: Raikkonen pits but has no tyres available for him! while Coulthard stays out!.

Lap 13: Almost everyone go for intermediates but Raikkonen stays out

Lap 13: Montoya pits and so does Michael!

Lap 12: It is raining now and the cars are sliding everywhere!! 

Lap 11: But Button manages to get his position back. 

Lap 11: Barrichello takes 7th from Button. This is a great drive from the Brazilian and as long as Michael cannot get past Montoya, he still has a chance!

Lap 10/60: Top 10 - Montoya, M Schumacher, Raikkonen, R Schumacher, Coulthard, Trulli, Button, Barrichello, Villeneuve and Bernoldi. Retirements: McNish and Webber

Lap 9: Montoya trying very hard to defend his position from Michael. Webber goes off and retires in the gravel!

Lap 8: Salo is back in 11th place. Webber is doing a great job in 17th ahead of Fisichella, de la Rosa and Massa who spun earlier.

Lap 8: Michael Schumacher is only a tenth behind Montoya!

Lap 7: Mika Salo spins in 9th, he keeps it going but loses a number of places!

Lap 7: Barrichello is now up in 8th!

Lap 6: The light rain appears to have stopped. The track remains mainly dry.

Lap 6: Rubens Barrichello manages to get ahead of Heidfeld for 10th. Meanwhile Michael Schumacher is still pushing Montoya.

Lap 5/60: Top 10 - Montoya, M Schumacher, Raikkonen, R Schumacher, Coulthard, Trulli, Button, Salo, Villeneuve and Heidfeld.

Lap 4: Michael Schumacher is pushing Montoya. He is just 0.6 seconds behind. 

Lap 4: McNish is in the pits and it looks like a retirement for McNish. 

Lap 3: Barrichello manages to get past Panis for 11th. 

Lap 2: Kimi Raikkonen manages to get past Ralf Schumacher for 3rd!. Barrichello up to 13th. Massa spins but recovers.

Lap 1/60: Top 10 - Montoya, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Coulthard, Trulli, Button, Salo, Villeneuve and Heidfeld.

Race start: Jenson Button moves up into 7th from 13th!. Barrichello has already made up a number of places!

Race start: Montoya makes a good start and leads Michael and Ralf. McNish spins!

Race start: Lights! and its go ....

Race start: The cars are lining up on the grid.

Formation lap: The mechanics get Barrichello going and he will start the race from the back!

Formation lap underway .... and Barrichello stalls! All the other cars get away cleanly.

Arrows who couldn't take part in Friday's practice due to a serious financial crisis will be racing today. Team boss Tom Walkinshaw reportedly paid 4.7 Million to Cosworth for them to continue supplying him with engines. Formation lap in 3 minutes.

Jaguar are debuting their long awaited package for the R3. Prior to testing the new package Irvine claimed they would surprise a few teams, so far they haven't shown any significant improvement. Formation lap in 5 minutes.

There are 21 cars on the grid today after Minardi's Alex Yoong failed to qualify yesterday. Formation lap in 8 minutes.

Given the cooler temperatures, Bridgestone are likely to have an advantage over Michelin. The Ferraris were very quick in the warm-up possibly deciding on a two stop strategy in order to clear Juan Pablo quickly and build a gap just as they did at the Nurburgring 2 weeks ago. Formation lap in 10 minutes.

So Juan Pablo Montoya starts from Pole position with Rubens Barrichello alongside him. Michael Schumacher and his brother Ralf share the second row while Kimi Raikkonen and his team-mate David Coulthard share the third row of the grid. Formation lap in 12 minutes.

The Pit lane has closed and all the cars are lined up on the grid. Formation lap in 15 minutes.

Ferrari dominated all the practice sessions and the warm-up but Juan Pablo Montoya managed to get ahead of both the Ferraris in Qualifying. Formation lap in 15 minutes.

Michael and Ralf Schumacher have just parked their cars on the starting grid. Formation lap in 18 minutes.

There is a bit of drizzle at the moment. It will be interesting to see if that develops into a rain shower. Formation lap in 20 minutes.

Olivier Panis stalled at the pit exit and had to push his car back into the pit lane on his own. Formation lap in 25 minutes.

The pit lane has opened and the drivers have 15 minutes to park their cars on the starting grid. Formation lap in 30 minutes.
