European GP - 2nd Friday Practice Session

Final Order - David Coulthard, Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen, Rubens Barrichello, Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher make the top 6.
Trulli, Button, Salo, Panis, Heidfeld, Sato, Frentzen, de la Rosa, Villeneuve, Massa, Fisichella, McNish, Bernoldi, Webber, Irvine and Yoong make the rest of the field.

60 min: Final lap ... Fisichella goes off but recovers. Frentzen improves into 13th.

59 min: Juan Pablo Montoya moves ahead of his team-mate Ralf and takes 5th with a time of 1:33.122. 

58 min: After having a good first session, Felipe Massa is now down in 16th and over 2.7 seconds off the pace. 

57 min: Takuma Sato moves into 12th with a time of 1:34.136. 

56 min: A number of drivers have gone back on the track for their final runs today. 

55 min: Olivier Panis who is currently in 10th has almost completed a race distance covering a massive 51 laps so far! 

54 min: Jacques Villeneuve moves into 14th with a time of 1:34.522. Both BARs are ahead of the two Jodans now but all of them are over 2 seconds off the pace! 

52 min: The top 10 seems to indicate that the Michelin have an edge here with 7 runners on Michelins and only 3 on Bridgestones. 

51 min: Michael Schumacher splits the 2 McLarens with a time of 1:32.041 

50 min: Michael Schumacher on a flyer! 

49 min: Juan Pablo Montoya finally manages to put in a fast one (1:33.676). Good enough for 7th. Still way off the pace.  

48 min: Top 10 - Coulthard, Raikkonen, M Schumacher, Barrichello, R Schumacher, Trulli, Button, Salo, Panis and Heidfeld. 

47 min: Mika Salo takes 8th away from Panis with a time of 1:33.715

46 min: Juan Pablo Montoya trying too hard goes off into the gravel but amazingly managed to recover!

45 min: Olivier Panis improves again with a time of 1:33.921 and moves into 8th.

44 min: David Coulthard goes fastest with a time of 1:31.886. Over 0.4 seconds faster than his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen in second!

43 min: Juan Pablo Montoya is down in 16th place. We should see some improvement from him before the end of this session!. Coulthard on a flyer!

42 min: Pedro de la Rosa improves again and moves into 9th with a time of 1:34.322. His team-mate Eddie Irvine is in 19th place.

41 min: Alex Yoong is slow! He eventually stops on the escape road. Session over for him.

40 min: Jacques Villeneuve moves up into 14th with a time of 1:34.829.

39 min: Olivier Panis moves into 9th with a time of 1:34.331

38 min: Alex Yoong improves his time but remains in 22nd and over 1.2 seconds behind Webber.

37 min: Rubens Barrichello improves but remains in 4th with a time of 1:32.969. Only the top 4 drivers have set times under the 1:33 mark .

36 min: Top 10 - Raikkonen, M Schumacher, Coulthard, Barrichello, R Schumacher, Trulli, Button, Heidfeld, Frentzen and Panis. 

35 min: Ralf Schumacher finally makes it into the top 5 with a time of 1:33.514. Still over a second off the pace. 

34 min: Mark Webber returns to the track and immediately improves his time with a 1:36.207. That is 1.8 seconds faster than Yoong's time.

33 min: Coulthard takes third with a time of 1:32.559. Have the McLarens made a big step forward ? Only qualifying will tell!

32 min: Pedro de la Rosa jumps into 11th with a time of 1:34.757. That is clearly under low fuel!

31 min: Michael Schumacher takes second from his team-mate with a 1:32.330. That is only 0.032 seconds behind Raikkonen!

30 min: Alex Yoong has improved his time but he remains in 22nd despite the fact that Mark Webber has not returned back to the track after his trip across the gravel very early in the session!

29 min: Takuma Sato spins into the gravel but recovers.

28 min: The World Cup Quarter final game between Germany and the USA is about to start. Interestingly, Michael Schumacher will have the score relayed to him if he is driving on the track!

27 min: Rubens Barrichello moves into second with a time of 1:33.418. Still over a second slower than Raikkonen!

26 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen takes 8th with a time of 1:34.583

25 min: Juan Pablo Montoya moves into 12th with a time of 1:35.073. They are still too slow compared to the Ferraris, McLarens and Renaults!

24 min: No improvements at this stage!

22 min: Ralf Schumacher improves into 13th with a time of 1:35.281.

21 min: And Kimi Raikkonen goes fastest with a time of 1:32.298. That is over a second faster than anyone else!. Could he be running a light fuel load ? 

20 min: Jenson Button moves into 3rd with a time of 1:33.708. Raikkonen very quick! 

19 min: Nick Heidfeld moves into 5th with a time of 1:33.963. Jenson Button on a flyer!. 

18 min: Top 10 - Trulli, Barrichello, Coulthard, M Schumacher, Raikkonen, Panis, Heidfeld, McNish, Massa and Frentzen. 

17 min: Jarno Trulli goes fastest with a time of 1:33.526. Interesting! 

16 min: Jarno Trulli on a flyer! 

15 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen moves back into the top 10 with a 1:35.128 in 9th. 

14 min: His team-mate Olivier Panis responds and moves up into 5th with a time of 1:34.859. 

13 min: And now he moves up into 10th with a 1:35.593! 

12 min: Jacques Villeneuve improves his time with a 1:36.128. Good enough for 16th! 

11 min: Rubens Barrichello fails to improve. 

10 min: Rubens Barrichello on a flyer! 

9 min: David Coulthard goes second and splits the Ferrari! 

8 min: Top 10 - Barrichello, M Schumacher, Coulthard, Raikkonen, Heidfeld, McNish, Massa, Panis, R Schumacher and Frentzen. 

8 min: Olivier Panis takes 8th from Ralf Schumacher. 

7 min: David Coulthard takes 3rd from his team-mate with a 1:34.015. 

6 min: Felipe Massa goes off into the gravel but recovers. 

6 min: Ralf Schumacher moves into 8th with a time of 1:35.451. Coulthard on track. 

5 min: And immediately, Raikkonen moves up into 3rd! 

4 min: Kimi Raikkonen, Ralf Schumacher and the 2 Jaguars are on the track. 

3 min: Mark Webber is crawling back to the pits. He seems to have a problem with his rear suspension. 

2 min: Mark Webber spins into the gravel but recovers! 

1 min: A number of drivers follow including Button and Yoong. 

Session underway .. and Mark Webber is the first to go out on the track followed by Jarno Trulli. 

Ferrari were super quick in the first session. It will be interesting to see if the other teams manage to close the gap this session. The times aren't indicative though as we won't know the kind of fuel loads the teams are running with. Session starting in 5 minutes
