Rubens Barrichello wins the European Grand Prix ahead of Michael Schumacher. Kimi Raikkonen is 3rd ahead of Ralf Schumacher and Jenson Button. Felipe Massa finishes 6th a lap down.
Heidfeld, Trulli, Panis, de la Rosa, Bernoldi, Villeneuve, Frentzen, McNish, Webber and Sato make the rest of the field.

Lap 60: Barrichello wins the race!

Lap 60: Final lap ... Will team orders apply again ? That is the question.

Lap 59: The Ferraris are now lapping even slower.  

Lap 58: Kimi Raikkonen in 3rd has now reduced the gap to the leaders to 51 seconds. Still a massive gap! 

Lap 57: Barrichello leads Michael by 0.6 seconds but are lapping in the 1:35's and are just holding position. 

Lap 56: Mika Salo finally retires after a struggle throughout the race.  

Lap 56: Order - Barrichello, M Schumacher, Raikkonen, R Schumacher, Button, Massa, Heidfeld, Trulli, Panis and de la Rosa. Retirements: Montoya, Coulthard, Fisichella, Irvine and Yoong. 

Lap 55: Alex Yoong retires. He was 2 laps down. 

Lap 55: Heinz Harald Frentzen in 13th spins while trying to get ahead of Villeneuve. 

Lap 55: Now that it is clear the 2 Ferraris are not racing. Will team orders apply ? 

Lap 54: Mika Salo continues to struggle. He spins but recovers. He is down in 15th.

Lap 54: Both Ferraris have dropped their speeds significantly. They are told by the team not to push to preserve their cars. They are lapping in the 1:35's now compared to the 1:33's earlier.

Lap 53: Barrichello leads Michael by 0.8 seconds. 

Lap 52: Order - Barrichello, M Schumacher, Raikkonen, R Schumacher, Button, Massa, Heidfeld, Trulli, Panis and de la Rosa. Retirements: Montoya, Coulthard, Fisichella and Irvine. 

Lap 51: Michael is just 0.7 seconds behind.

Lap 51: The talk is now whether Barrichello will be told to let Michael past or will they race for it ?

Lap 50: The battle for 6th intensifies with Massa ahead of Heidfeld and Trulli, all within a second of each other!

Lap 49: Eddie Irvine retires.

Lap 49: Michael is now just a second behind Rubens!

Lap 48: Jenson Button pits and rejoins in 5th behind Ralf Schumacher.

Lap 47: Barrichello leads Michael by 2.2 seconds. Raikkonen is 3rd with Button in 4th (probably needs to stop). Ralf Schumacher in 5th ahead of Felipe Massa in 6th.

Lap 46: Barrichello pits from first. 7.6 seconds and rejoins in the lead! Michael Schumacher had traffic on his last lap.

Lap 45: Ferrari ready for Barrichello. Trulli pits from 6th and rejoins behind Heidfeld!

Lap 45: Button is catching Raikkonen after the latter locked up and lost some time. Button still needs to stop, it is thought!

Lap 44: Michael Schumacher pits. 7.8 seconds and returns in second.

Lap 43: Ferrari getting ready.

Lap 42: Raikkonen is now 69 seconds behind Barrichello in 3rd, Button is 71 seconds behind, Ralf Schumacher is 83 seconds behind and Trulli in 6th is 84 seconds behind. The Ferraris and the Renaults are expected to stop once more.

Lap 41: Barrichello is just 2.9 seconds ahead of Michael Schumacher.

Lap 40: The Ferraris are a minute ahead of anyone else. They still have to stop though!

Lap 39: Amazingly, only 3 retirements so far in what was expected to be a high attrition race!

Lap 38: Barrichello has just lapped Massa who is in 7th!

Lap 37: Michael Schumacher continues to close the gap to Barrichello. It is down to 4.4 seconds. He would prefer to win on merit rather than the team applying orders as they did in Austria!

Lap 36: Raikkonen in 3rd was on a single stop while Button is expected to stop. Ralf Schumacher in 5th probably doesn't while Jarno Trulli in 6th is expected to stop once more. 

Lap 35: The 2 Ferraris are expected to stop once more however they have a huge gap that they can comfortably do it and retain their first and second places. 

Lap 34: Kimi Raikkonen retains third just ahead of Button.

Lap 33: Michael Schumacher continues to close the gap to Barrichello. No down to 4.8 seconds! 

Lap 33: Fisichella retires. 

Lap 32: Order - Barrichello, M Schumacher, Raikkonen, Button, R Schumacher, Trulli, Massa, Heidfeld, de la Rosa and Panis. Retirements: Montoya and Coulthard

Lap 31: Nick Heidfeld pits from 6th. 

Lap 31: At the front, Rubens Barrichello leads Michael by 6.8 seconds. Raikkonen is 3rd and 26 seconds behind. 

Lap 31: Ralf Schumacher pits for what seems to be his only stop. 11.5 seconds. 

Lap 30: Kimi Raikkonen is not closing in on Ralf Schumacher who is struggling with his tyres. 

Lap 29: Order - Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Massa, Heidfeld, Panis, Trulli and Button. Retirements: Montoya and Coulthard 

Lap 29: Third retirement in a row for Montoya.

Lap 29: Coulthard attempts to pass Montoya. Montoya tries to protect the inside line and spins touching the front of Coulthard's car. They both retire!

Lap 28: Michael Schumacher has closed the gap to Barrichello down to 7.8 seconds.

Lap 23: Michael Schumacher spins but recovers! He lost 10 seconds.

Lap 23: Jenson Button pits from 6th.

Lap 21: Jacques Villeneuve makes his first stop of the day from 13th, He rejoins in 15th.

Lap 21: Michael Schumacher responds and sets a time of 1:32.807!

Lap 20: Raikkonen in 7th is now being caught by Trulli.

Lap 19: Salo continues to struggle going off the track again. He is down in 18th place and about to be lapped.

Lap 19: The Ferraris have lapped Webber who is in 19th place.

Lap 18: Barrichello is now 28 seconds ahead of Ralf and the Williams don't appear to be closing the gap!

Lap 18: Order - Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Montoya, Coulthard, Button, Raikkonen, Trulli, Massa and Heidfeld. No retirements so far!

Lap 17: Raikkonen locks up and Button goes through and takes 6th! 

Lap 16: Trulli is closing in on his team-mate Button who is chasing Raikkonen 

Lap 15: Coulthard has dropped back a bit from Montoya. The gap now is 2 seconds. 

Lap 15: Alex Yoong in 20th is about to be lapped. The 2 Jordans are already a lap down after pitting early in the race.  

Lap 14: Barrichello is responding to Michael and the gap is back up to 1.1 seconds. 

Lap 13: If the pace of the Williams continue this way, the Ferraris will be able to pit and retain the lead!

Lap 12: Michael Schumacher is just 0.7 seconds behind Barrichello. Ralf Schumacher is almost 21 seconds behind!

Lap 12: Trulli takes 8th. Superb driving from the Italian after making a mistake earlier.

Lap 11: Trulli takes 9th from Heidfeld and is now chasing Felipe Massa for 8th! 

Lap 11: Order - Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Montoya, Coulthard, Raikkonen, Button, Massa, Heidfeld and Trulli. No retirements so far!

Lap 10: Coulthard is under a second behind Montoya while Button is under a second behind Raikkonen!

Lap 10: The Ferraris are now almost 18 seconds ahead of Ralf Schumacher!

Lap 9: Trulli moves into 10th after passing the Toyota of McNish!

Lap 9: Michael Schumacher continues to close in on his team-mate. Just 1 second separates them.

Lap 8: Jarno Trulli managed to get ahead of Panis for 11th and is now chasing McNish for 10th place.

Lap 8: The gap between Barrichello and Ralf is now 13 seconds. The Ferraris are lapping 2 seconds per lap quicker at this stage. They could be on 2 stops. 

Lap 7: Ralf Schumacher is now 11 seconds behind while Montoya is 13 second behind Rubens. 

Lap 7: Barrichello leads Michael by only 1.8 seconds! 

Lap 6: The 2 Ferraris continue to increase the gap. They are 10 seconds ahead of the rest.  

Lap 6: Jarno Trulli goes wide after locking up and loses 4 places. He is down to 12th! 

Lap 5: Alex Yoong gets a penalty for jumping the start. He is currently in 20th! 

Lap 5: Michael Schumacher sets the fastest lap of the race so far with a 1:33.565 

Lap 4: Barrichello leads Michael by 2.8 seconds.

Lap 3: Barrichello sets the fastest lap of the race so far with a 1:34.475. 

Lap 3: Michael passes Ralf for second!

Lap 2: Both Jordans are in the pits. They seem to have had contact at the first turn 

Lap 1: Order - Barrichello, R Schumacher, M Schumacher, Montoya, Coulthard, Raikkonen 

Lap 1: Michael Schumacher gets ahead of Montoya and takes 3rd! 

Lap 1: Barrichello passes Montoya and then passes Ralf. He seems on a lighter fuel load again! 

Race Start: Ralf Schumacher passes Montoya into the first corner. Barrichello gets ahead of Michael!

Race Start: Lights and its go! 

Formation lap underway! All the cars get away without problems. 

Formation lap in 2 minutes.  

The Michelin tyres are thought to go off after a few laps and come back again a few laps later. That is when the Ferraris will try to get ahead of the Williams if they remain behind them after the start. Of course we don't know the kind of strategy the teams will be running however the Ferraris pace in the warm-up session seem to indicate that they will be stopping twice. Formation lap in 5 minutes.  

The first corner here at the Nurburgring has been completely changed. It is now tighter but with more run off areas. Expect a spectacular start. Formation lap in 8 minutes.  

Juan Pablo Montoya starts from Pole with Ralf Schumacher lined up next to him. Michael Schumacher is 3rd with Rubens Barrichello next to him while the McLaren pair of David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonen start from the third row. Formation lap in 10 minutes.  

The pit exit has closed and all the cars have now lined up on the grid. Formation lap in 15 minutes.  

The pit exit is open and the drivers are lining up their cars on the grid. Some drivers return to the pit lane for final adjustments. They have to be out on the track 15 minutes before the race, otherwise they start from the pit lane. Formation lap in 20 minutes.  

Formation lap at 2:00 PM local time. It is partly cloudy with a temperature of 20 degrees.
