French GP - 2nd Friday Practice Session

Salo, de la Rosa, Button, Montoya, McNish, Fisichella, Massa, Panis, Sato, Heidfeld, Villeneuve, Webber, Trulli and Yoong make the rest of the field. For the second Grand Prix in a row, the Arrows teams failed to participate in the Friday sessions.

60 min: Final lap ... no improvements.

59 min: Michael Schumacher spins but manages to recover.

58 min: Juan Pablo Montoya is currently in 10th and has not improves on his time from the morning session.

57 min: Giancarlo Fisichella moves into 12th and is just over a hundredth of a second behind McNish.

56 min: Eddie Irvine spins but manages to recover.

55 min: Michael Schumacher has so far covered the most number of laps this session with a massive 27 laps!

54 min: Top 10 - Coulthard, Raikkonen, M Schumacher, Barrichello, R Schumacher, Irvine, Salo, de la Rosa, Button and Montoya.

52 min: Pedro de la Rosa moves into 8th with a time of 1:15.179

51 min: Rubens Barrichello improves but remains in 4th and still over 0.7 seconds off the pace.

50 min: At this stage the McLarens look strong with Michael Schumacher close behind. Barrichello appears to be struggling and so are the Williams. However McLaren usually do well in practice but don't improve in qualifying while the opposite applies for Williams. It is just too early to determine who's got the pace.

48 min: Mika Salo out with a blown engine!

46 min: With the exception of the Minardis and Trulli who is out of the session, all the Michelin runners are in the top 11. McNish in 11th is over half a second ahead of Massa who is in 12th and the best Bridgestone runner apart from Ferrari.

45 min: Mark Webber moves into 18th ahead of Trulli who is out of the session.

44 min: Ralf Schumacher moves back into 5th with a time of 1:14.970. That is still almost a second slower than Coulthard's time.

43 min: Giancarlo Fisichella seems to be having a problem as he stops on the track. No he gets going again!.

43 min: Eddie Irvine takes 5th away from Salo with a time of 1:14.983. Light fuel load too ?

42 min: It appears as though the conditions have swung back in Michelin's favour as the top 11 are on Michelins with the exception of the Ferraris.

41 min: Top 10 - Coulthard, Raikkonen, M Schumacher, Barrichello, Salo, Button, Montoya, de la Rosa, McNish and R Schumacher.

40 min: And Allan McNish moves into 9th with a time of 1:15.459

39 min: Mika Salo jumps into 5th with a time of 1:15.161. That has to be on a light fuel load!

38 min: Pedro de la Rosa goes 7th with a time of 1:15.458 splitting the 2 Williams.

36 min: Mark Webber moves ahead of Allan McNish and takes 18th.

35 min: Eddie Irvine moves back into 8th with a time of 1:15.641

34 min: Felipe Massa moves into 8th with a time of 1:16.030.

33 min: Michael Schumacher improves but remains in 3rd with a time of 1:14.240.

32 min: David Coulthard takes the top spot away from his team-mate with a time of 1:14.025.

30 min: Mika Salo takes 16th away from Trulli who is out of the session.

29 min: Top 10 - Raikkonen, Coulthard, M Schumacher, Barrichello, Button, Montoya, R Schumacher, Fisichella, Massa and Panis.

27 min: Rubens Barrichello improves his time but remains in 4th with a time of 1:14.909.

25 min: Jacques Villeneuve gradually improving. He is up into 14th with a 1:16.532. Still the slowest of the Honda runners.

24 min: Kimi Raikkonen goes fastest with a time of 1:14.097. Stunning!

23 min: Juan Pablo Montoya goes off in a violent spin but recovers. He is currently in 6th place over a second off the pace. Raikkonen on a flyer!

22 min: And Yoong finally sets a time inside the 107% mark. This must give him a confidence boost!

21 min: Jacques Villeneuve moves into 15th with a time of 1:16.641. That is over 2.3 seconds off the pace of Coulthard!

20 min: Felipe Massa takes 9th from Panis.

20 min: David Coulthard moves to the top of the timesheets with a time of 1:14.259. The McLaren is looking good this weekend!

19 min: Alex Yoong improves in 20th with a time of 1:19.973. He is only half a second off the 107% mark now.

18 min: Olivier Panis moves into 9th with a time of 1:16.163. It appears as the current track conditions are suiting the Bridgestone runners too.

17 min: Michael's time has made Yoong's task even harder. His best time is now over 1.2 seconds off the 107% mark. And as the weekend progresses, it will get tougher for the young Malaysian.

16 min: Jenson Button moves into 4th with a time of 1:15.218.

15 min: Giancarlo Fisichella moves into 8th with a time of 1:16.103. Button fast!

14 min: Michael Schumacher moves to the top of the timesheets with a time of 1:14.439. Impressive!

13 min: Now Kimi Raikkonen takes 5th with a time of 1:15.342. Michael on a fast lap!

11 min: Kimi Raikkonen improves his time but remains in 6th place just 0.004 seconds behind Ralf Schumacher.

9 min: Top 10 remains - Barrichello, Coulthard, M Schumacher, Montoya, R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Button, Irvine, de la Rosa and Sato.

8 min: Ralf Schumacher spins but recovers. The track is very slippery!

7 min: Rubens Barrichello sets the fastest time in the first sector but fails to improve his time.

6 min: Olivier Panis goes through the gravel as well but recovers.

5 min: Mika Salo improves on his time but remains in 16th with a time of 1:17.181.

4 min: Takuma Sato also goes off but manages to recover!

3 min: Jarno Trulli is off and stuck in the gravel. He has not had a good first session and this will definitely not help him. His session is over.

2 min: More drivers are going out early this session. More than 10 drivers are already on the track.

1 min: Allan McNish stalls on his way out on the track. The Toyota mechanics quickly get him going again. Several drivers are already on the track.

The Arrows team didn't take part in the session as they continue to try and sort out their financial problems. It is not known yet whether they will participate in this session. Session underway!

The first session saw the top 3 teams very close. Lets hope that continues this session and over the remainder of the weekend. Session starting in 2 minutes.

Session starting at 1:00 PM local time. It is partly cloudy with an air temperature of 23 degrees
