Japanese GP - 2nd Friday Practice session:

Final Order - Kimi Raikkonen, David Coulthard, Rubens Barrichello, Juan Pablo Montoya, Ralf Schumacher and Michael Schumacher make the top 6.
Irvine, de la Rosa, Trulli, Fisichella, Salo, Button, Sato, McNish, Massa, Heidfeld, Panis, Webber, Villeneuve and Yoong make the rest of the field.

58 min: Olivier Panis moves into 17th with a 1:37.927.

57 min: The session continues under yellow flags which means that improvements are unlikely before the end of the session.

55 min: Juan Pablo Montoya is OK but he has damaged his car. Looks like he lost his front wing and flew into the tyre barrier. Session over for the Columbian.

55 min: Juan Pablo Montoya crashes!

54 min: Jacques Villeneuve takes 18th with a time of 1:38.138. Still both BARs are behind Webber!

53 min: Giancarlo Fisichella takes 10th with a 1:36.744.

52 min: Jacques Villeneuve improves on his time but remains in 20th with a 1:39.506.

51 min: Pedro de la Rosa moves into 8th behind his team-mate with a 1:36.490.

50 min: Top 10 - Raikkonen, Coulthard, Barrichello, Montoya, R Schumacher, M Schumacher, Irvine, Trulli, Salo and de la Rosa.

49 min: Jarno Trulli improves his time with a 1:36.529 in 8th place. 

48 min: Mark Webber moves into 17th with a time of 1:37.997! 

47 min: Jacques Villeneuve makes it onto the track with 13 minutes to go. The BAR mechanics have done a fantastic job. 

45 min: The tyre situation has turned again with 8 out of the top 10 on Michelins. 

43 min: Eddie Irvine jumps into 7th with a time of 1:36.190

42 min: Ralf Schumacher takes 5th with a time of 1:35.995.

41 min: Rubens Barrichello improves with a 1:35.402 but remains in 3rd and over 1.1 seconds slower than Raikkonen. Meanwhile Michael Schumacher has only managed 3 laps this session and it looks like he has a problem.

40 min: Top 10 - Raikkonen, Coulthard, Barrichello, Montoya, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Trulli, Salo, de la Rosa and Fisichella.

39 min: It looks like Jacques Villeneuve will make it for the final few minutes of this session as he prepares to go out. 

38 min: Trulli takes 7th with a time of 1:36.860. He is still over half a second slower than the slowest of the top 3 teams. 

37 min: Pedro de la Rosa move into 8th with a time of 1:36.969. Webber takes 18th from Yoong. 

36 min: Coulthard on a flyer but fails to improves as he gets stuck behind a slower car.  

35 min: Fisichella takes 8th from his team-mate. Heidfeld moves into 12th. 

34 min: It is interesting the the Bridgestone runners are doing better than the first session however Ferrari appear to have dropped back a bit. A lot depends on the fuel load though. 

33 min: Sato moves into 8th and his team-mate Fisichella moves into 9th. 

32 min: Alex Yoong pits after flames erupted from the back of his car. His session looks to be over! 

31 min: Mika Salo jumps into 7th with a time of 1:36.893.

30 min: Now Barrichello responds with a time of 1:35.717 and takes 3rd from Montoya.

29 min: Top 10 - Raikkonen, Coulthard, Montoya, M Schumacher, Barrichello, R Schumacher, Massa, McNish, Heidfeld and Sato.

27 min: Juan Pablo Montoya takes 3rd with a 1:35.742. He is 1.5 seconds off Raikkonen's pace. But Michael is now 4th!

26 min: Jenson Button moves into 12th place with a time of 1:38.260.

25 min: Villeneuve is now last and has yet to make it out onto the track this session.

25 min: Alex Yoong jumps into 18th with a time of 1:39.142 and ahead of his team-mate Mark Webber!.

24 min: Pedro de la Rosa improves with a 1:38.559 in 15th place. Irvine is 2 places ahead in 13th. Not a strong showing from Jaguar this weekend.

23 min: And David Coulthard moves into second with a time of 1:34.730. He is half a second slower than Raikkonen.

22 min: David Coulthard on a flyer as he responds to Raikkonen's time.

21 min: Takuma Sato takes 10th with a time of 1:38.134 and spins after setting his time. He recovers.

20 min: Top 10 - Raikkonen, M Schumacher, Barrichello, R Schumacher, Montoya, Coulthard, Massa, McNish, Heidfeld and Trulli.

19 min: Kimi Raikkonen goes fastest with a time of 1:34.232. That is a stunning time but it is likely to have been set on low fuel!. He is over 1.8 seconds faster than Michael! 

18 min: Ralf Schumacher responds and moves into 4th with a time of 1:36.353. Raikkonen on a hot lap! 

17 min: Juan Pablo Montoya improves his time but remains in 4th. Massa also improves ahead of Ralf Schumacher. 

16 min: Allan McNish jumps into 8th with a time of 1:37.865. 

15 min: Ralf Schumacher goes off but recovers. 

14 min: Felipe Massa takes 7th with a time of 1:37.813.  

13 min: The BAR mechanics continue to work on Villeneuve's car and he might be able to go out for a few laps this session. 

12 min: Trulli improves again but remains in 8th.

11 min: Alex Yoong continues to improve. He is still in 20th place though and over 0.3 seconds behind his team-mate.

10 min: Jarno Trulli improves his time with 1:38.350 in 8th place.

10 min: Rubens Barrichello and David Coulthard are on the track.

9 min: Olivier Panis moves into 7th with a time of 1:38.269.

8 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Coulthard, Montoya, Raikkonen, R Schumacher, Irvine, Trulli, Fisichella and de la Rosa.

7 min: Mika Salo improves his time in 12th place with a 1:38.798.

6 min: Giancarlo Fisichella moves into 9th with a time of 1:38.557.

4 min: Juan Pablo Montoya takes 4th with a time of 1:37.129. He is still over a second slower than Michael.

3 min: Allan McNish improves his time in 17th place with a 1:39.324.

2 min: Kimi Raikkonen joins in the action as Montoya starts a flying lap.

1 min: More cars join in with the 2 Williams and the 2 Jordans.
