Japanese GP - Race:

Takuma Sato manages to score 2 points for the first time in his Formula 1 career. With these 2 points he put Jordan ahead of both Jaguar and BAR in the Constructors' Championship. This will ensure that he stays with the team next season!

Final lap ... Michael Schumacher wins his 11th race of the season ahead of team-mate Rubens Barrichello. Kimi Raikkonen finishes in 3rd ahead of Juan Pablo Montoya. Takuma Sato takes 5th place ahead of Jenson Button. 

Lap 52: Just 1 lap to go. Both Michael and Rubens are lapping way off the pace! 

Lap 51: The Jordan team will now move ahead of Jaguar if Sato can finish the race in 5th! 

Lap 50/53: Order - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Raikkonen, Montoya, Sato, Button, Heidfeld, Salo, Irvine and Webber. Retirements: R Schumacher, de la Rosa, Fisichella, Trulli, Villeneuve, Yoong, Panis Coulthard, Massa. McNish did not start. 

Lap 49: Ralf Schumacher retires. Looks like a blown engine. Sato is now up in 5th!

Lap 48: Kimi Raikkonen catching Ralf Schumacher but there aren't many laps left.

Lap 47/53: Order - M Schumacher, Barrichello, R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Montoya, Sato, Button, Heidfeld, Salo, Irvine and Webber. Retirements: de la Rosa, Fisichella, Trulli, Villeneuve, Yoong, Panis Coulthard, Massa. McNish did not start.

Lap 45: Michael Schumacher is now 10.7 seconds ahead of Rubens Barrichello.

Lap 44: Takuma Sato is now comfortably running in 6th. If he stays there Jordan will move ahead of BAR in the Constructors Championship. If any driver ahead of Sato retires and Sato doesn't then Jordan will move ahead of Jaguar!

Lap 43/53: Order - M Schumacher, Barrichello, R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Montoya, Sato, Button, Heidfeld, Irvine, Salo and Webber. Retirements: de la Rosa, Fisichella, Trulli, Villeneuve, Yoong, Panis Coulthard, Massa. McNish did not start.

Lap 42: Raikkonen pits from 3rd. de la Rosa retires!

Lap 41: Montoya pits.

Lap 40: Ralf Schumacher pits.

Lap 40: Giancarlo Fisichella retires with a blown engine. Will Sato last!

Lap 40: The 2 Williams drivers yet to stop as well as Raikkonen.

Lap 39: Michael Schumacher pits, 8 seconds and rejoins in the lead.

Lap 38: Barrichello stops and rejoins in 3rd.

Lap 35: Michael leads Barrichello by 9.4 seconds! 

Lap 34: Raikkonen goes off but manages to recover. 

Lap 33: Trulli retires before he makes his pit stop. Could he have run out of fuel! 

Lap 32: Button pits for his second stop. 

Lap 31/53: Order - M Schumacher, Barrichello, R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Montoya, Trulli, Button, Sato, Heidfeld and Salo. Retirements: Villeneuve, Yoong, Panis Coulthard, Massa. McNish did not start.

Lap 30: Back at the front, Michael Schumacher is now 7.6 seconds ahead of Rubens Barrichello. Ralf Schumacher is 30 seconds behind!

Lap 29: And Villeneuve blows an engine while chasing Fisichella!

Lap 28: Fisichella cuts the chicane as he is chased by Villeneuve

Lap 27: Villeneuve challenging Fisichella who is in 11th place.

Lap 27: Michael Schumacher leads Rubens Barrichello by 7 seconds. Ralf Schumacher in 3rd is 29.5 seconds off the pace.

Lap 26: And Montoya pits, 7.8 seconds and rejoins behind Raikkonen in 5th.

Lap 26/53: Order - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Montoya (yet to stop), R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Trulli, Button, Sato, Heidfeld and Salo. Retirements: Yoong, Panis Coulthard, Massa. McNish did not start.

Lap 25: Ralf Schumacher pits from second. 8.6 seconds and rejoins ahead of Raikkonen.

Lap 24: Only Ralf Schumacher, Juan Pablo Montoya and Mark Webber have yet to stop. 

Lap 24: Kimi Raikkonen pits, 9.9 seconds. 

Lap 23: Takuma Sato pits, 7.6 seconds and rejoins behind Trulli! 

Lap 23: Rubens Barrichello pits and rejoins behind Ralf and Raikkonen but they both have to stop. 

Lap 22: Fisichella pits, 9.6 seconds. 

Lap 22: Michael Schumacher pits for 9.4 seconds and rejoins ahead of Ralf Schumacher!

Lap 21: Jacques Villeneuve and Nick Heidfeld both pit, 7.8 for Villeneuve, 9.4 for Heidfeld.

Lap 20: Mika Salo pits, 8.4 seconds. BAR ready for Villeneuve.

Lap 19: Toyota ready for Salo in the pits.

Lap 18/53: Order - M Schumacher, Barrichello, R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Montoya, Sato, Heidfeld, Fisichella, Salo and Villeneuve. Retirements: Yoong, Panis Coulthard, Massa. McNish did not start.

Lap 17: Panis pits again and retires.

Lap 17: Michael Schumacher extends his lead to 6.4 seconds. Button pits, 7.6 seconds.

Lap 16: Alex Yoong spins out of the race. He is stuck in the gravel. Trulli pits, 8 seconds.

Lap 15: Renault ready for a pit stop. Could they be 3 stopping ?

Lap 14: Michael Schumacher goes fastest again and now leads Rubens Barrichello by 5 seconds.

Lap 13: Olivier Panis returns to the track after a long pit stop! 

Lap 12: Rubens Barrichello responds and closes the gap slightly. 

Lap 12: The battle between Fisichella, Salo and Villeneuve is heating up! 

Lap 11: And Michael sets another fastest lap with a 1:36.709! 

Lap 11: Michael Schumacher leads Rubens Barrichello by over 4.5 seconds. Ralf Schumacher is a further 10 seconds behind!. 

Lap 10/53: Order - M Schumacher, Barrichello, R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Montoya, Sato, Trulli, Button, Heidfeld and Fisichella. Retirements: Panis Coulthard, Massa. McNish did not start.

Lap 9: Panis pits and it looks like he will retire.

Lap 9: The close battles at this stage are between Sato in 6th and Trulli and Button behind. Also Fisichella in 10th and Salo and Villeneuve behind.

Lap 9: Ralf Schumacher now moves up into 3rd with Raikkonen in 4th and Montoya in 5th. Sato is in 6th place.

Lap 8: Coulthard slow! - he makes it into the pits. He retires

Lap 7: Another fastest lap by Michael with a 1:37.100

Lap 7: Olivier Panis running slow and is down to 18th place and last.

Lap 6/53: Order - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Coulthard, R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Montoya, Sato, Trulli, Button and Heidfeld. Retirements: Massa. McNish did not start.

Lap 5: Michael Schumacher sets another fastest lap with a 1:37.160.

Lap 4: Felipe Massa crashes and he is out of the race. This was his last race for Sauber and possibly in Formula 1.

Lap 3: Michael Schumacher sets the fastest lap so far with a 1:37.415.

Lap 2: Michael Schumacher leads Rubens Barrichello by a massive 3 seconds! Coulthard is a second behind Barrichello.

Lap 1/53: Order - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Coulthard, R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Montoya, Sato, Trulli, Button and Heidfeld.

Michael leads ahead of Rubens with Coulthard in 3rd. Ralf moves ahead of Raikkonen.

Lights! and its go!

Air temperature is now 24 and the track temperature is 32. 

Formation lap underway ... leading cars now reach the starting grid.

As mentioned, Fisichella will be running in the spare that was setup for Sato and it does not have the latest spec engine. Formation lap in 1 minute. 

Michael Schumacher starts from Pole ahead of Rubens Barrichello. David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonnen start from the second row. Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya start from the 3rd row and Takuma Sato and Giancarlo Fisichella start from the 4th row on the grid. Formation lap in 5 minutes 

All the cars have made it onto the grid. Fisichella had a problem with his car and had to switch to the spare which is setup for Sato. Formation lap in 10 minutes 

Allan McNish will not be racing today even though he took part in the warm-up session this morning. McNish was involved in a heavy crash during qualifying. Formation lap in 15 minutes 

Formation lap starting at 2:30 AM local time. It is sunny with an air temperature of 23 degrees.
