Lap 28: Ricardo Zonta is providing all the action as he is on a 2 stop strategy and has passed both Minardi's into 8th.

Lap 27: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Hakkinen, Verstappen, R Schumacher, Fisichella, Salo, Wurz, Gene, Mazzacane and Zonta.

Lap 25: Michael Schumacher leads Hakkinen by 6.569 seconds. Verstappen, Ralf Schumacher, Fisichella and Salo  make the top 6.

Lap 20: Zonta overtakes Verstappen for 3rd place.

Lap 16: Ricardo Zonta is flying and overtakes several cars and is running 4th!. Nick Heidfeld spins on the track.

Lap 15: Race Order: M Schumacher ahead of Mika Hakkinen and Ralf Schumacher. Jos Verstappen. Ricardo Zonta, and Fisichella make the top 6.

Lap 13: Ricardo Zonta overtakes Heidfeld and then Alexander Wurz. Jos Verstappen overtakes Fisichella while Jacques Villeneuve retires from the race with an electrical problem.

Lap 12: Race Order: M Schumacher ahead of Mika Hakkinen and Jacques Villeneuve. Ralf Schumacher ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella and Jos Verstappen. 

Lap 11: Safety car goes in. Race start with Michael Schumacher starting to build a gap ahead of Hakkinen. 

Lap 10: Jenson Button goes off the track narrowly avoiding Jacques Villeneuve after accelerating while Michael Schumacher is slowing down as the safety car is about to leave the track.

Lap 10: This the longest a safety car has been on track for a long time. This is mainly due to a marshal who was injured from debris resulting from the accident. 

Lap 9: Safety car still on track. M Schumacher, Hakkinen, Villeneuve, R Schumacher, Fisichella and Button.  Retirements: Coulthard, Barrichello, Frentzen, Trulli, de la Rosa, Herbert and Irvine.

Lap 6: Safety car still on track. Order - M Schumacher, Hakkinen, Villeneuve, R Schumacher, Fisichella and Button. Retirements: Coulthard, Barrichello, Frentzen, Trulli, de la Rosa, Herbert and Irvine.

Lap 2: Safety car still on the track. Michael Schumacher ahead of Mika Hakkinen and Jacques Villeneuve. Mika Salo, Ricardo Zonta pit to fix their cars as a result of the accident. Johnny Herbert manages to go around the circuit on 3 wheels but retires in the pits.

Safety car on the track. Coulthard, both Jordan's, Rubens Barrichello all out following a big crash at the second chicane. It appears that Rubens Barrichello and both Jordan's squeezed each other going into the second chicane. They touch and take Coulthard out with them. Pedro de la Rosa hits the wheel of Ricardo Zonta (who was slowing down due the accident) and also hits the back of Herbert's car and launches into the air and flips several times on top of Coulthard's car and lands next to Barrichello's! 

Race Start: Michael Schumacher ahead of Hakkinen. Barrichello has a very bad start and holds a number of drivers behind him. Eddie Irvine and Mika Salo touch at the first chicane, Irvine retires. Big crash at the second chicane.
