The cars are now back on the starting grid with Coulthard at the back.

Formation lap underway and Coulthard has stalled! He will now have to start from the back of the grid!

The track is now being cleared and the formation lap is about to start.

As this track is narrow, overtaking is almost impossible and the race can be won at the start and in the pits. Of course there is also the high rate of attrition with car failures and driver mistakes. It is rare to see more than 10 cars finish this race. This year will not be any different. Formation lap in 2 minutes.

There are a number of 'surprise' drivers in the top 10 today with Eddie Irvine in 6th and Fisichella in 10th. Jean Alesi is also worth mentioning having qualified in 11th place. These drivers usually qualify a lot further back. Formation lap in 5 minutes.

The pit lane has now closed and all the cars have formed on the grid. Formation lap in 10 minutes.

There has been a lot of talk about the launch control systems here in Monaco and the fear that if one of the cars at the front stalls at the start it could cause a massive pile-up as the track is too narrow for the cars behind to avoid a stalled car. The FIA has told the teams to be 100% sure that their systems will work and that heavy fines will be applied to those teams who have encounter launch control problems at the start. Let hope that everyone gets away without problems. Formation lap in 15 minutes.

David Coulthard is on Pole with Michael Schumacher in 2nd and Mika Hakkinen in 3rd. Coulthard was also the fastest in the Warm-up session this morning. Formation lap in 18 minutes.

The pit lane is open and cars are going out for one or more installation laps before finally stopping on their grid position. Formation lap in 20 minutes.
