Shame on Ferrari. Ferrari is 100% pure dirty team. What's the point if you race like this? I think FIA should thanks Ferrari for bringing up such hot issues and helping FIA to reduce cost for printing more and more F1 tickets. Nobody is going to watch their sport anymore - Tan PH - Malaysia

HAS FERRARI LOST SIGHT OF THE REASON THAT THIS CIRCUS EXISTS, "ENTERTAINMENT" WHICH BEGINS WITH BUMS ON SEATS, WHETHER AT THE TRACK OR IN FRONT OF A TELEVISION AND IN TURN THIS VIEWING PUBLIC JUSTIFIES THE VAST SUMS OF MONEY INVESTED BY SPONSORS AND ADVERTISERS. THIS TYPE OF ARROGANCE SHOWN TO THE PAYING SPECTATOR, I FEEL, WILL BE THE ULTIMATE DEMISE OF THE SPORT??????? - Ian F - Australia

Thank You Ferrari and Michael Schumacher for giving me a reason not to watch and follow F1. That is until Schumacher retires. This is a shame!!!!
The formula one series is nothing but a circus!!!!
MICHAEL SCHUMACHER SUCKS BIG TIME!!!!!!!! - JerryRed - Mexico

Ferrari is a team that currently destroys the opposition. It can and should do whatever serves it best. Ferrari wasn't a team until recently. Schumacher made it what it is today. He drove ridiculous cars for 4 years while untalented losers like Villeneuve and Hill won championships (Hakkinen is obviously NOT among this pathetic group of drivers) But now it's payback time. Since Senna was killed by the incompetent losers at Williams , it was obvious that Schumacher would win one race after the other with a good car. He destroyed Hill on 95 with inferior equipment before he went to Ferrari to drive their truck. Williams single handedly destroyed racing in the 90's. Now everybody talks about Ferrari and basically says BS (I am talking like the second-place-champion Montoya).
Schumacher once again will destroy everyone in the next circuits that actually require skill from the driver. I assume that the pace car will let the drivers race.... I am just waiting to see how far ahead Michael will be from all the other losers both in qualifying and the race. Including the much slower Rubens (16/17 times a year)
Bottom line: Schumacher is the best and he deserved every single victory, except the last one. Don't forget though that he already wasted one victory to Irvine in '99. By the way, what do Americans know about motor racing, they better shut up. They should watch all these losers in NASCAR running round and round. They may have 'competition' but I better watch frogs racing instead of untalented losers banging wheels. - ST - USA - (this comment was edited - Ed.)

The whole reason why Ferrari pulled this stupid stunt was to secure the Championship and SATISFY THEIR SPONSORS. But I wonder.....How is Marlboro going to feel about being associated with a team that has embarrassed itself in front of the entire world.
Maybe Ferrari should think about that next time - Todd B - Canada

Ferrari, after this have produced a bad image for themselves! This will be remembered by them all for a very long time to come. Yes, Rubens should have won it but the dignity and the closeness of these two (Michael and Rubens) at the end of the day really looks like something positive to me!! But with Frentzen doing all the crap he ended up doing and the big crash, it was an emotional and unforgettable Grand prix!
I am happy to hear that Sato is fine though, he's a nice guy and deserves much better! Heidfeld is a total idiot, he causes too many problems for everybody, too often!!!! Regards - Rob - Australia

Rubens / Michael, are you men or mice? Pathetic!!!!!!!! - Lee J - Australia

I feel Ferrari broke the bad sportsmanship rule. If Mark Webber had to take a penalty for ignoring blue flags (hence bad sportsmanship) I'm sure Ferrari is guilty for "race fixing" and should be penalised. They have obviously done it in the past and seem happy to do it in the future. Its time the FIA stopped it before Ferrari and Michael Schumacher sinks the reputation lower than it has ever been.
After seeing Michaels displays last night, it has shown the world how much of a looser he is. If he Claims (not win) this years championship, I will never consider him the world champion, because he used dirty tactics to win it (race fixing). He also drives very dirty ie- Adelaide '94 (I still consider Damon hill as the 94 world champ, not schuey), and Jerez in '97. Why the FIA still let him get away is beyond my knowledge. Its about time they woke up - Mitchell - Australia

I WOULD SAY THAT M. SCHUMACHER WOULD HAVE A HARD TIME GETTING BACK THE INTEGRITY AND DIGNITY HE HAS GAINED FOR HIMSELF AND THE SPORT, JUST BECAUSE OF ONE STUPID DECISION ON PASSING RUBENS ON THE FINAL STRETCH TO THE FINISH. MICHAEL SAYS THAT HE HIMSELF DISAGREED TO THE CALL OF HIS TEAM, THEN WHY DID HE FOLLOW IT, JUST THAT SIMPLE. I GUESS MICHAEL SHOULD LEARN FROM NOW ON THAT WINNING IS NOT EVERYTHING BUT ONLY IF DESERVING - Leonard K - Philippines

Shame on Ferrari. Schumacher does not need that kind of help to win a drivers championship, although Ferrari's decision could suggest otherwise. And where's the sport? And what about the respect for all the Formula One fans around the world? I believe that if Schumi takes this year's championship, nothing will make him and us forget that he wouldn't get by himself. I remember the late Ayrton Senna, the best driver of all times, and all the other great F1 champions, but I can't remember any of them being champion based on that kind of team tactics: they made it by their very own talent. Again, shame on Ferrari! - Luis F - Brazil

What happened at the A1-RING WAS ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL. RUBENS HAD BEEN KICKING ASS ALL WEEKEND AND DESERVED TO CROSS THE FINISH LINE 1ST.
WHY COULDN'T MICHAEL HAVE NOT LISTENED AND JUST FOLLOWED HIS TEAM-MATE( HANG ON) ACROSS THE LINE. IT IS NOT AS IF FERRARI WILL SACK HIM FOR DISOBEYING THEM. THE CROWD WERE 100% CORRECT FOR BOOING THEM.
MICHAEL SAID THEY DID THIS FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP BUT THEY DID THIS LAST YEAR AND WON BY THE DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF POINTS OF DC. THE REPUTATION OF MICHAEL AND FERRARI HAVE BEEN SEVERELY SCREWED BY WHAT HAPPENED.
RUBENS DOMINATED THE WEEKEND UP UNTIL THAT FINAL RADIO CHAT WHEN THE SHIT CALL WAS MADE.
FOR A RUBENS BARRICHELLO FAN IT WAS TOUGH WHEN WE GOT ALL EXCITED AS HE CAME INTO THE LAST CORNER AND LET MICHAEL THRU. TODT, MONTEZEMOLO, MICHAEL CAN GET STUFFED AND I HOPE RUBENS DOESN'T LISTEN TO TEAM ORDERS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR AND DOES SCORE 3 OR 4 WINS.
FERRARI SHOULD BE VERY ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES AS THEY WILL COP IT FROM A LOT OF PEOPLE - James - Australia - (this comment was edited - Ed.)

Ha! Ha! Gotcha suckahs!!!
Please, to all those shedding crocodile tears or are outraged over MS’s victory, what did you expect? This year’s world championship was announced in Barcelona. As MS said, hopefully we can get the World Championship wrapped-up soon and get back to racing. Besides, this is nothing new to F1 - how do you think that Fangio won five world championships?
On another note, I won’t let the last 30 seconds spoil the best race of what has been a mediocre season to date. Apart from nearly taking out HHF, JV’s race was brilliant! Haven’t seen him this competitive all year – Now if only some Sir Frank Williams would dump that bus driver JPM and give Jacques a real car to push.
Speaking of JPM, what happened?? Last year all ‘Piss and vinegar’ take no prisoner’s rookie, this year ‘eat lot’s of bran’ Mr. Regular driver. I mean, is he even pushing the car? Today was a turning point in the season. The resulting backlash from the Ferrari fix will definitely shake things up going forward. Strap your seatbelts, we’re in for a more interesting ride! YAHOOOOOO - Al - Canada

The same thing has happened before. But why is it that nobody makes as much noise when Schumacher lets his then partner Eddie Irvine take the chequered flag in Sepang (1999)? At the end of the day, Schumacher and Barrichello are just pieces of chessmen played by the top people of Ferrari - HY - Malaysia

The FIA should ban or at least amend the rules regarding the team orders. What we saw in the Austrian GP makes a mockery of motor racing, of the spirit of sportsmanship! It may be a team championship in one sense but how will Schumacher be able to consider himself a champion in his own right if at the end of the season, he is to win the drivers' trophy by virtue of the extra points gained in the Austrian GP? It would not have been by his own efforts, would it? His acute embarrassment at the podium says it all.
It's time that FIA should do something about this before the name of F1 gets tarnished further by such unsportsmanlike behaviour, especially from a supposed top team like Ferrari! - Dennis T - Singapore

It was an interesting race at the beginning with some drama with the accident of T.Sato, and also excitement watching Villeneuve running so fast with low fuel (I thought it was about time), but at the end things were not as expected. M. Schumacher with that huge advantage on points. I thought "Ferrari is going to let Rubens win this race", He deserved it! but at the very last corner, You've got it! Business is Business!
I'm really sorry for the Guys who thought F-1 was a real spectacle. It's all about money! Ferrari definitely made MS look so stupid in front of everyone. It's a shame this is not the first time this happens on F-1, remember the days of McLaren in late 80's and early 90's. But the FIA has never did anything about, and it never will because this is all about business. I saw today a sad ending of a race that will do no good for the Sport, specially this year watching the very same face on the podium at every race. This is not what F-1 needs. Let's them win it on their own merits!! - Jorge H - Dominican Republic

UN-FRIGGIN-BELIEVEABLE!!!!! You people at Ferrari are crazy! Look, I guess I can understand your reasoning, but, COME ON! I suppose that if Michael and Rubens were going for the championship, you would still ask Rubens to move over? Shame, Shame!! This is RACING!! Let them race!!! - John L - USA

TO ALL OF THE BUMS AT FERRARI (WHICH IS ALMOST ALL OF THEM): Giving Michael Schumacher this win at the A-1 ring this May 12, 2002, is outrageous. LET IT STAND FOREVER IN THE F-1 RECORD BOOKS THAT MICHAEL, THE BUM, SCHUMACHER DID NOT REALLY FINALLY WIN AT THE “A-1 RING”, HIS FINISH AS FIRST WAS REALLY RIGGED AND SHOULD BE TAKEN AWAY FROM HIM.
You, at Ferrari, are all bums except for Rubens and his car mechanics and engineers. If, as Michael says, this decision comes straight from the top, then the top of Ferrari is the biggest bum of all. All Michael Schumacher is now is an "ARTIFICIAL CHAMPION". He only wins because it is GIVEN to him and NOT EARNED. TOO many times this has happened in his career while at FERRARI. This is the last straw. May his image as the "Superstar" of Motor Sports BE FOREVER TARNISHED. He is nothing more than another BUM at Ferrari for not having the courage to ignore the IDIOTIC order of the IDIOTIC FERRARI owner BUM and other manager BUMS involved.
NO ONE RIGS A WIN FOR TIGER WOODS!!! He gets it done on his own and would never stoop to the gutter level of the BUMS AT FERRARI.
FERRARI SUCKS! MICHAEL SCHUMACHER SUCKS TOO!! MICHAEL SCHUMACHER JUST CAN'T GET IT DONE ON HIS OWN. HE HAS TO HAVE HIS WINS RIGGED BY ALL THE OTHER BUMS AT FERRARI.
HAS RUBENS’ BAD LUCK THIS SEASON REALLY BEEN JUST BAD LUCK OR HAVE THE BUMS AT FERRARI DELIBERATELY CAUSED HIS PROBLEMS SO THE BUM MICHAEL SCHUMACHER, THE ARTIFICIAL CHAMPION, COULD BE AN “ARTIFICIAL WINNER” AND A FOR REAL “REALLY BIG-TIME BUM” WITH NO BACKBONE AND COURAGE.
THIS IS A BIG BLACK EYE FOR THE WHOLE OF F-1 RACING AND MOTOR SPORTS IN GENERAL. FERRARI'S COLORS SHOULD NOW AND FOREVER GO FROM YELLOW AND RED TO BLACK AND YELLOW FOR BEING COWARDS AND BUMS!!! - Sandeek D - USA

I feel that Ferrari's image took a beating as the decision was totally unjustified. It has made millions of Ferrari fans the world over ashamed that the Scuderia could make such a decision so early in the season - Vishnu S - India

Michael could have shown grace, sportsmanship, and confidence in the team and year by following Rubens past the flag. This would have unnerved Juan Pablo, and cemented friendship with Rubens. Rubens knows he will at some time be asked to move over, but there is a lot of year left to do this if necessary. All the hugs by MS afterward are BS - Ed B - USA

With that kind of finishing at A1 Ring, I don't think I wanna support Ferrari anymore ! It has become very predictable, each time Barrichello is ahead just before the chequered flag, he has to pull aside for Schumacher. I don't think I am alone - Azman TG - Malaysia

What do you guys expect, this season at Ferrari is about Michael winning his fifth in a Ferrari. If he doesn't win five he won't win six, which is possible.
This is reality TV, I don't like it either, but if you threw obscene amounts of money at a project and where defeated by yourself, for yourself because of yourself, who would you blame?
Rubens is driving fantastically at the moment, he has really stepped up to the plate, I did not really rate Rubino until this weekend, but now I see a better driver emerging from the facade of the perpetual nice guy.
In closing Rubens's new contract, and old contract because he is still on the old one remember, must have some clauses in it to bring about this unfortunate result. What would you of done? Regards Cooky - Australia

Disgusting! Michael Schumacher establishes another record! Now he has won all GPs, including Austria. This is what the statistics will show and is what will be remembered.
MS is too cynical! He celebrated the winning inside the car, during "victory lap", and only when he realized the public's reaction he decided to play the good guy giving honors to Barrichello. (who indeed was very professional: he runs for himself, to prove his capability and is very comfortable inside the Ferrari 2002).
And it is not true that he will pay Rubens back: last year he said the same after the same GP and what was seen by the end of the year is that the newest and best chassis was always dedicated to Michael: no matter if Rubens was fighting for second place in the championship while MS was already the champion. Scuderia Ferrari Schumacher Marlboro rules!
From now one I'll just buy Lamborghinis, Porsches and Aston Martins ;o)) - Andre B - Brazil

Ferrari farce. No, today's result is not open, fair racing and the jeers of the Austrian crowd were spot on. I couldn't believe the cynicism of that last corner. Yes, MS could possibly lose the WC by 4 pts at the end of the season - but that's what the game is about, isn't it? Does he want a tainted trophy and a flawed fifth title?
As for RB, what more must this man do to prove to his team's Godfather that he's worth backing as much as Schumy? His loyalty and commitment cannot be in question, surely? - Tim MC - UK

This was a very clinical decision of Ferrari. Unfortunately it has scarred Michael in the process tremendously. Rubens won more than just the race today. Ferrari has not done any of their drivers a service today. The team would have gotten the same amount of points had Rubens been allowed justice. As a Ferrari supporter even in the worst days I just have no joy in what happened today - Johan K - Canada

It is the F2002 Who is the Winner of Austrian GP, and obviously its not the drivers special skills that took them to the chequered flag. Sure, there were lots of times drivers were the real winners, but today, it is just the F2002, and they have the right to do what they think is the best to defend their claim to the championship.
I am not trying to defend too much, obviously I am too disappointed. But it is very obvious for me that Michael Schumacher who has to take the entire blame and that makes him real embarrassed. Considering his vast experience in F1 and the controversies he had been to, he would be the last person to make such a decision that gives him a very bad image and gives Barrichello much more than what a winner deserve (He became an instant hero, right?) .
It must be very hard for both Barrichello and Michael to do that for the team who gave them the best cars. Maybe both should deserve applauds rather than the boos!! - GOP - NL

Jacques Villeneuve provided the most enjoyment in the race today. I know he was on a light fuel load and all, but nonetheless this provided us with something worth watching. I really hope Takuma is OK (which I understand he is). Its a little worrying that that is the third time this year Nick has made a similar error in judgement. I am also left asking the question "what's with Kimi and Jarno?", how come they have both repeatedly had mechanical failures whilst their team-mates have faired so much better.
As for Ferrari, well I'm with the A1 ring crowd on this one. My reason is this. Ferrari are so dominant and Michael already well on his way to his fifth wdc, that there really was no need for them to do what they did to Rubens today. It was so unnecessary and that's why everyone was so appalled. - Linda B - England

Rubens Barrichello deserved to win the Austrian Grand Prix. I strongly criticise the Ferrari manager for asking Rubens to allow Michael to pass him and win the race. Isn't he a human after all? He didn't show any sort of consideration to Rubens. I think he should be sacked from his position. What he has done today really affect the image of the Ferrari team as whole. Why should Rubens receive such unfairness? I really pitied him.
Is this what we call SPORTS? Rubens has all the bad luck during the start of the season, I thought today will be his day, but it was not. I think that Rubens has sacrificed a lot for his team.
For Rubens out there, the Ferrari manager will pay for what he did. I am a Ferrari fan, and what happened in Austria is really humiliating.
To the Ferrari manager: " If u r not doing your job fairly, buzz off". - Ming JT - Malaysia

We are not going to continue to get up in the middle of the night to watch a race if teams are going to fiddle the result instead of racing all the way to the finish line - Gordon R - New Zealand

Ferrari has let down all the multitude of its fans big time by what it did today at the A-1 Ring. This was something that was downright shocking and unsportsmanlike and unacceptable even to a die-hard Ferrari and Schumacher fan like me.
For a guy who has dominated throughout the weekend and also the final race quite comprehensively, Ferrari did something which was a signal to a complete waste of all his efforts and his talent. IT WAS DOWNRIGHT UNFAIR TO BARRICHELLO. Ferrari's team orders at this point of the season is completely illogical and unjustified. I fail to understand why they should play so defensive and conservative at this stage of the championship when they had got very little to lose had they let the rightful winner win the race. What's the hurry for Michael to win the championship so hurriedly ?? He has got 11 races to go ahead yet and he has a formidable lead already.
Despite team orders, Michael should have acted with a bit of conscience and allowed Barrichello to cross the chequered flag. I don't believe he had team orders to WIN the race as much as Barrichello had to slow down so the decision was ultimately Michael's about pressing that gas pedal a lil harder just before the finish line. He tried to salvage for his act by letting Barrichello stand up on the winner's place on the podium and get the trophy but at the end of it all, it seemed an act very cheap and not befitting a 4-time winner and a team as great as Ferrari.
Formula 1 racing is a spectator sport as much as it is about big money for the winning team and the crowd rightfully gave a thumbs-down for what happened in the dying moments of the race. Ferrari deserves it and they seemed like killing the fun and the excitement that the sport is all about apart from the staggering amounts of money. I think Barrichello still has time to decide about continuing with a team which has very less respect for his talent and his efforts (which they have showed not just once). With his determination, he surely can perform a lot better in a team which might not have a better car but certainly a better "attitude". And to your surprise, these words are coming from a self-confessed die-hard fan of Michael Schumacher and the Ferrari. Thanks - Yatin - India

I've just finished watching the race... sad sad day. I really feel Jean has done wrong here. The stupid team order has totally destroyed Michael's reputation. Rubens was destined to win and Ferrari took it away. The team has placed MS in a tight spot and well... he just HAD to obey, like Rubens. :( - Vash - India

After watching Rubens dominate the whole weekend, including the race, and then have to move over was disgusting to say the least. I don't know what can or should be done about this, but it is unfair to everybody involved, most important, us fans. If it were not for the millions of people watching, the fans, the sponsors would not pay $2,000,000 for a driver to wear a particular hat, and the obscene amounts of money they poor into logo placement. Ferrari's official line is that they were protecting the championship lead.
What if they got down to last race of the season and lost the drivers championship by 2 or 3 points? Well, at the rate they have been going I don't think that is very likely , even if Rubens finishes in front of MS for the rest of the season ( file that under never), a Ferrari driver would win the championship and Ferrari would win the constructors championship. Of course this is assuming they finish 1-2 every race, not likely. Again I don't know what the FIA can or should do, I would like to think that a gentlemen's agreement could be worked out between teams, but with the amount of money at stake that wouldn't last, so I'm just another unhappy fan who thinks honesty and fair play still mean something - Jeff S - USA

Michael Schumacher has, today, destroyed any of the respect which I had finally developed for him. He has never been a sportsman and his move today shows that he never will be. I do not for one moment believe that he could not have turned down the "Ferrari orders" that he claims caused today's situation, in fact I believe that those orders came from him in the first place.

He and Ferrari will often regret this move that they made today as the damage to their image is colossal as was shown in no uncertain manner by the crowd in Austria.

At least the protagonists in the WWF try to make it look like the result was not fixed!

I can only now hope that Schumacher will be plagued with mechanical problems from here on and that Rubens scores more points than him in this year's championship - Arthur W. - Brit living in the USA
