Michael Schumacher wins ahead of Rubens Barrichello.
A 1-2 for Ferrari at home. Ralf Schumacher is third and Montoya is
4th. Jenson Button gets home ahead f David Coulthard. Good result for
Villeneuve as he finishes 7th and the only Honda runner left.

Lap 58: The positions are safe provided no mechanical failures or mistakes. Felipe Massa is pushing Trulli though. 4 laps to go.

Lap 55: Michael Schumacher laps the McLaren of David Coulthard. McLaren have slipped back a lot this season.
Lap 54: Michael Schumacher leads Rubens Barrichello by 12 seconds. Ralf Schumacher is third with a huge gap to Montoya (18 seconds). Jenson Button is 5th ahead of David Coulthard.
Lap 53: Enrique Bernoldi goes off. All the Cosworth powered cars are now out of the race.

Lap 49: Coulthard pits. So everyone was on a 2 stopper. They just left the first stop too late, beyond half distance.
Lap 48: It appears that Montoya had to stop as the tyre wear was excessive. Coulthard ready to pit as well.

Lap 40: Nick Heidfeld stops for his second scheduled stop but his 4th stop after suffering a re-fulling problem and a penalty!

Lap 39: Barrichello flying, he sets the fastest lap of the race so far with a 1:24.170.
Lap 39: Felipe Massa pits for the second time. It seems they are the only team on a two stop strategy.
Lap 38: Rubens Barrichello is pulling away from Ralf Schumacher.

Lap 35: David Coulthard is the last of the top 6 to pit. 7.2 seconds. At this stage it is not clear if the drivers will stop again or not. It could be that all the top 6 are on a single stop but Montoya's pace was slow compared to Ralf ?.

Lap 26: Juan Pablo Montoya is lapping close to the leaders but he is 27 seconds behind. We'll have to wait and see if he is on a different strategy.

Lap 15: The midfield is very close and their order will certainly be decided by their strategies.
Lap 15: Michael now leads Ralf by 10.2 seconds. Barrichello 0.8 seconds behind Ralf.
Lap 14: Only 2 retirements so far. At the back Webber is staying close to Irvine and keeping de la Rosa behind!
Lap 13: Michael leads by 9.7 seconds. The gap continues to increase. Montoya is now 19.8 seconds behind Michael.

Lap 2: Both Renault drivers managed to get ahead of Heidfeld and Massa overtook Villeneuve at the start for 10th.

Ferrari look strong here at their first of two home races. Williams are their main threat while McLaren will have to settle for 3rd unless there is drama at the front. Renault and Sauber will be fighting for fourth and we'll have to see how the latest evolution Honda engine will perform under race conditions. Formation lap in 5 minutes.
It is not drizzling any more. That would be a relief for the Michelin runners who struggle under wet and cold conditions. There are a few dark clouds though that look threatening. Formation lap in 10 minutes.
The pit lane has now closed. It appears that all the cars have made it to the grid without problems. Formation lap in 15 minutes.
For the first time this season, one driver will not start after failing to Qualify and that is Minardi's driver Alex Yoong. Takuma Sato failed to qualify in Australia but was allowed to race due to exceptional circumstances. This time the stewards rightly rejected Minardi's appeal to allow Yoong to start as there were no exceptional circumstances. Formation lap in 15 minutes.
Michael Schumacher starts from Pole with his team-mate Rubens Barrichello alongside him. Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya make it a Williams second row while Kimi Raikkonen and David Coulthard are on the 3rd row. Formation lap in 20 minutes.
There is a bit of drizzle at the moment!. The pit exit has opened and the cars have 15 minutes to form on the grid.
