US GP - 1st Friday Practice Session:

Final Order - Michael Schumacher, Giancarlo Fisichella, Pedro de la Rosa, Eddie Irvine, Juan Pablo Montoya and Takuma Sato make the top 6.
Heidfeld, Button, Raikkonen, Coulthard, Frentzen, Salo, Webber, Villeneuve, Trulli, Panis, R Schumacher, McNish and Yoong make the rest of the field. Rubens Barrichello failed to set a time after crashing on his out-lap.

60 min: Final lap ... Raikkonen improves into 9th.

59 min: Montoya retakes 5th with a time of 1:15.632. He is still behind Fisichella and the 2 Jaguars (in addition to Michael Schumacher of course!)

59 min: Mark Webber takes 13th from Villeneuve. Amazing!

58 min: Takuma Sato improves again, this time moving into 5th with a time of 1:15.659. Given that this is his first time at Indy, he is doing a good job being under 2 tenths slower than his team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella.

57 min: Jacques Villeneuve improves his time but remains in 13th.

56 min: Mark Webber is doing a great job in the Minardi. He is 15th just behind Trulli and ahead of Panis, Ralf Schumacher, McNish and his team-mate Yoong!

55 min: Takuma Sato improves again. He is up into 6th with a time of 1:15.798.

54 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Fisichella, de la Rosa, Irvine, Montoya, Button, Heidfeld, Coulthard, Sato and Frentzen. Barrichello won't be setting a time this session following his crash on his out-lap.

53 min: And Takuma Sato moves into 10th with a time of 1:16.045.

52 min: Frentzen in the Sauber takes 9th from Raikkonen with a 1:15.997.

51 min: And Kimi Raikkonen finally moves into 9th with a time of 1:16.066. Still slow by McLaren's standards.

49 min: Kimi Raikkonen is 19th after completing just 5 laps while Coulthard is 8th after 6 laps.

48 min: Ralf Schumacher spins in the infield section. He is limping back to the pits as he lost his rear wing!

47 min: Ferrari are dominant here. Michael's time has still not been beaten despite he has only completed 4 laps earlier in the session.

46 min: Juan Pablo Montoya moves into 4th with a time of 1:15.761.

45 min: Eddie Irvine moves into 3rd with a time of 1:15.589. The Jaguars are looking good at this stage.

44 min: Apologies for the disruption in the service. We had a technical glitch!

43 min: Michael Schumacher has not returned to the track since Barrichello's crash. Ferrari may be suspecting a car problem ?

42 min: Takuma Sato has covered the most number of laps so far with 14. He is 10th fastest at the moment.

40 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, de la Rosa, Button, Fisichella, Montoya, Heidfeld, Coulthard, Salo, Irvine and Sato. Barrichello won't be setting a time this session following his crash on his out-lap.

31 min: Montoya moves into second with a time of 1:15.925.

30 min: Session restarts and almost all the cars are back on the track (except Barrichello). The times should drop now as the track is dry.

29 min: Session stopped - Session starting in 2 minutes.

29 min: Session stopped - The track has been cleared. The session should be starting shortly

29 min: Session stopped - The marshals are clearing the track from debris as a result of the crash.

29 min: Session stopped - The marshals are clearing the track from debris as a result of the crash.

29 min: Session stopped - Top 10 - M Schumacher, Panis, Salo, Montoya, R Schumacher, Heidfeld, Webber, Yoong, Fisichella and Sato.

29 min: Session stopped - Barrichello crashed into the wall going out onto the oval section. Thankfully he is OK but he has yet another bad start to a Grand Prix weekend. He won't be setting a time today!

29 min: Session stopped - Barrichello is OK but the car is heavily damaged. It was Barrichello's 1st lap of the day!

29 min: Barrichello crashes!

28 min: And Michael Schumacher improves by over a second with a time of 1:15.188. He is still over a second slower than last year!

28 min: Mika Salo goes 3rd with a time of 1:16.880. The times continue to drop as the track dries out.

27 min: Olivier Panis tops the timesheets with a time of 1:16.736

26 min: Mark Webber moves into 4th with a time of 1:19.063. Yoong improves with a time of 1:19.276.

24 min: Mark Webber on his first flying lap of the day (and his career here!)

23 min: Alex Yoong moves into 2nd place with a time of 1:20.203.

22 min: Montoya improves in 1st with a 1:16.988 while Ralf Schumacher improves in 2nd with a 1:17.021.

21 min: Ralf Schumacher spins but recovers. Yoong on the track!

20 min: Juan Pablo Montoya goes fastest with a time of 1:17.597. These times are still too slow compared to last year. The damp track is the reason.

19 min: Ralf Schumacher goes fastest with a 1:17.720. Fisichella goes second with a time of 1:20.649. Sato pits without setting a time.

18 min: Montoya starts his flying lap!

17 min: Sato, Fisichella and Ralf Schumacher start their flying laps. Montoya on the track too.

16 min: And de la Rosa pits without setting a time. Now Sato, Fisichella and Ralf Schumacher take to the track.

15 min: The only 2 times set so far are too slow and that is due to the damp track. Just for comparison, they are over 10 seconds slower than the best time set during the 1st practice session last year.

14 min: Frentzen pits without setting a time. de la Rosa starts his flying lap.

13 min: Pedro de la Rosa joins in the action while Frentzen starts his first flying lap of the day.

12 min: Trulli sets the first time of the day with a 1:27.245 while Button goes better with a 1:25.771. Frentzen in the Sauber on track!

11 min: Both Renault drivers have started a flying lap!

10 min: Jarno Trulli and Jenson Button appear on the track. Lets see if they try to set a lap time.

9 min: But he pits without setting a time. As mentioned earlier, the track is still damp in some places and that could be the reason why the drivers aren't going out early.

8 min: Mika Salo is the first driver to go back out onto the track.

6 min: No cars are on the track at the moment. Only the Ferraris have yet to complete a shakedown lap.

4 min: Jacques Villeneuve appears on the track. Irvine pits without setting a fast time.

3 min: Eddie Irvine stays out on the track for a second lap. The rest of the drivers head back into the pits after their installation lap.

2 min: Almost all the drivers have already gone out onto the track. Only the Ferraris and Villeneuve have yet to come out!

Session underway and Allan McNish is the first to head out onto the track with several drivers following. The track is still a bit damp following overnight rains.

Session starting at 11:00 AM local time. It is mainly cloudy with an air temperature of 18 degrees.
