Boring ? No I have to disagree (reference "That was boring!" - Issue 27). Two years ago (before F1 became a "No Passing" zone) it would have been boring. Today it had the one element that levels the field, rain. It would have been even better with a real start and a follow-up shower but we have to take what excitement we can these days. Any race where a Prost can reach 4th, albeit briefly, has to be interesting.

The most positive thing I noted from whole weekend was the redefinition of the standing among the various teams, instead of a McLaren/Ferrari race in front of the rest of the teams it was a Mika/Michael race with lots of variety behind them, particularly in practice and qualifying. What odds on a podium for J Button before the year is out?

I agree with your comment on Hakkinen's pass, he was (and is) a professional, driving in a professional manner. He said it himself, there was no value to him in following Michael around the outside so he took the shortcut. I suppose it shows the depths to which F1 has sunk that so much hype is created over an incident that in the heady days of mechanical grip would have been no more than excellent driving by a champion. I was much more impressed with Mika's recovery from his little "off" than I was by the overtaking move. THAT took real skill.

Geoff,

I guess it is all in the point of view. Certainly this race has been one of the more interesting of the season, especially as there are several teams that now seem capable of challenging Ferrari.

However, we have an extraordinary line up of drivers this year and with Montoya joining next year it promises to be even better. Surely it should have been more exciting?

Yes Button has the talent and the car is getting better fast. He has a great chance of a podium this year.

Yes, losing as little as he did from a half spin took real skill.

Now if it rains at Monza . . . . . . but then it hardly ever does.
