Agree with everything you say [except perhaps Schumacher was slower on the straight in part because he was driving in the water to cool the tyres, and perhaps save them a bit?]. (reference Issue 27 - That was boring)
The Ferrari has a chassis problem of some sort - and they pay because Schumacher and Barrichello are having to over-drive the cars. I'm surprised they are hanging together mechanically.
Some might suggest you're cynical, and maybe that's what you want to be - well, at least heretical. I'd prefer to think of it as common sense, but then to talk of common sense and F1 in one sentence is a bit of an oxymoron, isn't it?
Thanks for the raves. Always interesting, often informative, often delightfully reinforcing my prejudices!

The Heretic replies:

David,

I hope to be reinforcing your prejudices for many years to come.

I did feel that Schumacher was wasting his time and lead looking for the wet bits. Ferrari has consistently ruined tyres faster than McLaren (or for that matter every other team with the exception of Prost who ruin their cars before the tyres get a chance) and there were many laps left.

I think that he just felt that he had to do something - anything!

I often criticise Ferrari for not building a car that can compete with McLaren and have to remind myself that none of the other teams are close.
Maybe it is just a case that McLaren got everything right and deserve to win. But then where is the controversy in that?
