What do you think of the rookie Montoya. Only 3 finishes all in the points, 2 podiums. Can he win any race this year? - J. R Angel - Colombia (Reference Heretic 3-23)

The Heretic replies:

Montoya is fast and is adapting to F1. I am sure that he has the skill to win a race this year but, in all fairness, he could only win if Ralf retires or is several places behind him as Williams will want to give every victory they can to Ralf as he has, albeit ever so slim, a chance of winning the championship.

The problem I see is that Williams are still not reliable. Their cars just do not seem to have the reliability needed to confidently do what it takes to win. Ralf has learned how to make his car last the distance some of the time and providing his set up was appropriate, has enjoyed a lot of time on the podium as a result.

Montoya on the other hand is very hard on his car. I tend to think that he overdrives it causing unnecessary stress and therefore more retirements than needed. If it can break he will break it.

Lately the problems that all Michelin teams have had with tyres have not helped. Let's hope they get it right for the rest of the season.

I think Montoya is fast and has the potential given a very robust car. I would still not class him as a world championship driver, but then we have seen many drivers with less skill win a championship in the past.
