As to the tyre war, it is already evident that the "gap" between Bridgestone and Michelin in warm or hot conditions has been narrowed, if not eliminated. And it seems uncertain, to me at least --I depend on television and what I can read on the web and in the magazines-- that the degree to which Bridgestone's "superiority" in the wet or cold is actually in the tyres is hard to gauge, since Rubens surely has learned something from his mate who is "the best in the wet" and maybe the greatest ever in adverse weather. 

I hope you're wrong about McLaren West falling back, but David's drive wasn't encouraging as you said. 
The real mystery is as you suggested: what was Ralph doing? Whether or not Rubens was "blocking" or legitimately "setting up", he clearly got a better than decent start. He got a very good start and this was THE FIRST CORNER. Ralph, who also had an excellent start would hardly have lost any momentum by falling into line --either his own or Rubens' and filling up Rubens' mirrors. It would be a while before Michael would be pushing him. So. Again. What WAS he doing? 
It's very interesting to me that you speculated about "excitement and red mist." If we had seen something like that from Kimi, or from JPM, I think we would have heard a great deal more along the lines of rookie mistakes and temperamental lapses. Maybe even experienced and cool heads sometimes lose concentration? 

Like you, I was disappointed by the Hondas and surprised by the Toyotas. With the Saubers and the Renaults sharpening their weapons, this looks like it will be a fine year for those of us who like the points race to be as close as the race on the track.

Thank you for the mail.

Although I agree with you on the tyre gap issue I am still not convinced that Michelin will be able to do as well as Bridgestone in the wet. Extreme heat may also favour one or the other (probably still Michelin). On the other hand I hope that you are right. We are here to watch the race – not a tyre trial.

I often wonder if Barrichello has learnt anything other than not making promises that he can’t keep, since joining Ferrari.

Yep, Ralf’s start was spectacular, and confusing. It certainly is hard to explain.

I’ll hang in there until you win the lottery. Enjoy the season.
