With regard to this comment: "Spectators will lose interest if, for instance, Michael Schumachers engine blows up on Saturday, sidelining him for the rest of the weekend and the race." I would disagree. I think spectators would like to see a race that is close and not just a Ferrari winning every weekend. By having a chance that Schumacher will be out for the main race would keep me more interested than if he was there. Also this would be better for punters because the odds in F1 are so shit that there is no point on betting on a Ferrari driver to win.
I do agree with this comment though "In 2006 it will take him (Schumacher) out of more than a third of the season. If this happens to two or three of the top drivers, I will stop watching." This would be bad for the sport.
But how do u define a top driver in F1?? Put Schumacher in a team such as Toyota, and put DaMatta in the Ferrari and I think the rookie will come out on top. It is not so much the Driver that is good in F1 - it is their team as well. (ie. Management, financing etc).
F1 really needs to do something- The Indy CART series is so much more interesting because it isn't so one sided that 1 team wins every year.
You might as well watch old Ferrari highlight reels than watch a F1 race these days because you already know that Ferrari is gonna bloody win - Simon - Australia (Reference Heretic 5-01 - Do it the FIA way or else)

The Heretic replies:

Thank you Simon,

It really does not matter which of the top drivers are side lined if it happens too much my fear is that we will start losing the audience.

If it is only Ferrari/Schumacher that gets sidelined it is possible that it would increase interest in the sport to see if he can claw his way back up. Make it most of the top drivers and it will be disastrous
