Im 41 and the first F1 GP Ive watched was Belgium 72. Emerson Fittipaldi won this race and F1 became one of the most popular sports in Brazil. I think that Nelson Piquet was one of the best pilots ever. He invented the warming of the tires with electric blankets and the gasoline refuelling during the race. Eventually he had no charisma and was not as fast as Senna, who became the biggest idol in Brazil. Because of Senna the victories were rewarded by 10 points instead of 9. Winning is what this sports about!
IMHO giving only 2 extra points to the winner is cheating, and MS almost lost it even winning 5 races MORE than KR. Its a shame! To make the races more interesting FIA should invest in circuits changes. Wider curves and long straights. Enough space for braking and bigger escape areas. Overtaking is the magic moment of a F1 race, and its what keep us awake in the middle of the night so far away from the deafening noise of the engines. I'm aabc01, 7th on 8'n'pole - Andre B - Brazil (Reference Heretic 5-18 - Is it fair, are they shaping and is it over?)

The Heretic replies:

Andre

Yes I agree with you. Michael could have missed the championship and that is not fair seeing that he did much better than anyone else.

I also feel that the solution is in circuit layout (possibly in regulating that tyres should leave less marbles, making the whole track driveable not just the racing line) but not changing regulations and specifications of the cars means that the leading teams will probably consistently be in the points next season. By now, with the exception of Monaco and Hungary, there are only aerodynamic downforce circuits where the design and ability of the car is of prime importance and the driver almost does not matter any more. Almost any driver in F1 today will win with the best car. Their input is becoming less significant.

Given the fact that there will probably be six cars in the leading pack with an almost equal chance of winning we may see an unfair finish to the season next year. This from a scoring point of view, may create a very exciting season but overtaking will probably be in the pits only and that is a shame.
