The Hungarian GP-:

Last year the championship battle was just hotting up at the Hungaroring but this year the championship was decided there. Michael Schumacher won his record 51st race and his fourth driver's title by winning the GP from team-mate Rubens Barrichello and David Coulthard after the former drove a flawless race from pole.

Qualifying at the Hungaroring is vital. A good position virtually assures you of a good result because overtaking on this circuit is virtually nonexistent. Like Monaco this circuit uses very high downforce. Michael totally dominated the qualifying session grabbing pole 8/10ths of a second ahead of Coulthard. Barrichello followed in third with Mika Hakkinen in a disappointing sixth.

On GO all the cars got away cleanly but at the very first corner Eddie Irvine spun out of the race. Michael soon led Barrichello who had beaten David to the first corner, by two seconds with the Scot another second behind the Brazilian. These three were in a different mode of driving and soon Ralf Schumacher in 4th place was 15+ seconds behind the lead trio. Jarno Trulli who had pipped Hakkinen for 5th on the grid was slowing the Finn by around 1.5 seconds per lap. This allowed Ralf to get away and open a biggish gap by the first pit-stops. Coulthard pipped Barrichello in the pits and emerged in 2nd place and got about chasing Michael who was now comfortably in the lead, to no avail. It was evident that only a driver error or more likely a car failure would spoil Michael's party. The German was well on his way to winning his 4th title. The second pit-stops saw Barrichello regain his second place. This was a significant change as a 1-2 result would assure Ferrari of their third straight constructors title. Mika Hakkinen who was setting the race's fastest laps by the minute was soon on the tail of Ralf, but towards the end of the race the Finn had to pit for the third time due to a shortage of fuel making it impossible to better his 5th place. Nick Heidfeld was in 6th place for Sauber.

Michael won his 4th title and his 51st race. Ferrari their 3rd consecutive constructors title.

The race order- Michael from Barrichello, Coulthard, Ralf, Hakkinen and Heidfeld. Juan Pablo Montoya finished just outside the points in 7th. So now the remaining 4 races are open. We could see an interesting battle for second in the drivers and constructors.

The Belgian GP is next on the calendar. Remember the last race ?
