First Friday Practice Session Report - Results

4 Ferrari powered cars top the timesheets after the first session with Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello the only 2 to set times in the low 1:11's. Felipe Massa and Nick Heidfeld were 3rd and 4th but nearly a second behind.
Giancarlo Fisichella and Takuma Sato were 5th and 6th in a strong show from the Jordan team even though Fisichella was over 1.1 seconds off the pace.
David Coulthard was the first of the Michelin runners (and in fact the only Michelin runner in the top 10!). Frentzen was again impressive in 8th ahead of the 2 BAR's of Villeneuve and Panis.

This clearly indicates a big advantage for the Bridgestone tyres under the current conditions. However the conditions change here rapidly so expect the Michelin runners to bounce back as the weekend progresses.

Only Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello managed to set times better than those set during this session last year.

There were no major incidents during the session although several drivers went wide and Barrichello and Massa actually spun off into the gravel at the end of the session.

Olivier Panis covered the most number of laps with 31 followed by Jacques Villeneuve and Alex Yoong with 26 laps each. Enrique Bernoldi covered the least amount of laps with 11 while Kimi Raikkonen only managed 13 and Heinz Harald Frentzen covered 14 laps. All the other drivers covered between 15 and 23 laps.
