First Saturday Practice Session Report - Results

Rubens Barrichello sets the fastest time of the session ahead of team-mate Michael Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya. Jarno Trulli, Jenson Button and Ralf Schumacher make the top 6.

It appears that Ferrari were one of the few teams running with heavy fuel loads and concentrating on race setup on Thursday. Today they were fastest and by over a second ahead of anyone else!.

Williams, Renault and McLaren are fairly close to each other but unless Ferrari were running in Qualifying trim, it doesn't look like they have much of a chance of competing for Pole.

There were no incidents this session as the drivers were more careful today. Allan McNish was the only spinner and he recovered.

Interestingly, there were a number of drivers who failed to improve on their times from Thursday indicating that they were running lighter fuel loads. Those were Trulli, Coulthard, Fisichella, Salo, McNish, Villeneuve, Webber and de la Rosa.

Michael Schumacher covered the most number of laps with 25 followed by Mika Salo with 24 and Jacques Villeneuve with 23. Jarno Trulli covered the least number of laps with 10 while Irvine only did 12 laps. All other drivers covered between 13 and 20 laps each.

We'll see if the Ferraris maintain that second advantage during the second practice session.
