British American Racing (BAR) will certainly finish in the top 6 this year and possibly in the top 4 depending on how they do in Malaysia. BAR's official target is 5th in the Constructors' championship so they appear to have achieved that..

Last year they finished with no points and in 11th place. Whatever position they finish in this year, they would have achieved one of the biggest turnarounds in the sport.

However, BAR have one of the biggest budgets, one of the most powerful engines and one of the best drivers in the sport and while they could finish 4th, their points would be just half of what 3rd placed team Williams have collected and under a seventh of what Ferrari have.

Do you consider BAR's achievement in their second season as success or did they underperform yet again  ? Have Your Say ?  (What others are saying)

What others are saying:

I will say YES!!!, the reason is, to become the 5th place from last in one year is not easy, even if the team have the good cars and drivers. What I personally think is, the support and the team work is the biggest encouragement to the whole team and also the drivers, especially Jacques - Gary L - Malaysia

As a fellow N. American, I have followed Jacques ever since the Indy win and have admired his class as much as his obvious racing skills.  I am full of hope for the works Hondas next year, but if F1 teaches anything it is that the racing Gods love to see predictions published!  Good Luck Next Year BAR but don't think Williams will be sleeping - Jim W - USA

yes. definitely a success. from last to fifth in one year who could argue against that ? i must agree with rob and would like to add that jacques is the team and without him they would still be way down in the points. who else could take a car that doesn't work well, and drive into the points. lets see what happens next year with honda stepping up their involvement, can anyone say world champion.....way to go bar - Bryan L - Canada

I think BAR have been successful this year. They're certainly better than Jaguar, the other hyped big budget F1 entry. I think Honda will do everything to get back to their winning ways, and new regulations may mean that the McLaren/Ferrari stranglehold will be lifted. It was essential for the future of the team that Villeneuve remained, now they can plan with him, and help him win again. Honda won't take this lying down. This year has set the seed for that, BAR are vying for 4th (and I think they'll get it), so I think that 2000 has been as success for BAR - Rob - Ireland
