The 2000 season was thrilling, spectacular and downright
suspenseful at it's best.
As usual, Ferrari and McLaren kept up their end of the bargain, sadly though, so did
Minardi.
Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen lived up to their rivalry, but David Coulthard provided much
of the thrill as he put most of the pressure on the top two drivers. Rubens Barrichello
did better than Eddie Irvine in his first year with the Italian team.
Williams was undoubtedly the best of the rest this season. Ralf Schumacher is well on the
way up.
Giancarlo Fisichella was a huge disappointment. He was one of the best drivers of the
first half of the season, sadly, his car let him down in the letter part.
Jordan and Jaguar proved to be disappointing as none of them continued the flair they
showed last season.
Arrows and BAR improved greatly and they definitely deserve their places in the
Constructor's tally.
Prost was worse than pathetic.
Perhaps the greatest praise of all should be rewarded to Jenson Button. Just 20 years old
and he has already achieved what most drivers would only get when they retire. I was a bit
disappointed when Williams chose Juan Pablo Montoya over Button as I really didn't trust
Montoya to deliver as well as Jenson had. Also, it's hard to find young drivers who
exemplify the traits Button has - especially the part where the heads grow bigger. Kudos
to Jenson Button for a job well done. I trust that he will perform better than he did this
year, this time in a Benetton.
Finally, lots of congratulations to Michael Schumacher and Ferrari! 2000 was destined to

I think the season was more of a repetition of the form of
racing one has seen in the past 3-4 seasons...
nothing spectacular...same Ferrari and same McLaren fighting at the top..not even Williams
offered considerable competition.
BAR .. much hyped did better..than last year..Jordan was a big let down..it will be
interesting to see how the two teams perform with same spec works Honda engines..
Another point was the poor show of Jaguar. The season also highlighted the managerial
inflections during races...I mean to say that it always goes without saying that anyone
and everyone at Ferrari and at McLaren nowadays plays second fiddle to Schumacher or
Hakkinen - Sandeep K - India.
Hello, I congratulate Michael Schumacher for being the
champion at the 2000 season; I guess next season would be as tough as this one for the
other drivers to beat him, I think he would be the 2001 champion again, he´s driving very
well.
I want to wish Juan Montoya good luck in the 2000 season, he would be a tough driver to
beat too, I hope him to be the champion of the F1, but this wont be easy, even to get some
podiums. however I wish him Good luck - Juan C - Columbia
The 2000 season ebbed and flowed and whilst exciting racing
was sadly missing most of the time, the McLaren - Ferrari battle was intriguing.
During the 17 races, I can only recall the top 4 drivers changing positions 5 or 6 times
on the track, this surely must be looked at.
There is no doubt in my mind that Michael Schumacher is the
best driver currently in F1, however I am sure that, in retrospect he will accept that he
rode his luck a little bit. Nonetheless you cannot argue against 9 wins.
The intra-McLaren battle was also fascinating and but for
the dreadful pit strategies in Germany and Belgium not to mention the 6 points deducted in
Brazil, the 10 second penalty in Canada, being harpooned at Monza and the jump start at
Indy, we would have seen Coulthard as their leading driver, however I still feel
that, when push comes to shove, Coulthard will struggle to match Schumacher in the closing
stages of the 2001 season if their cars are as closely matched as they were this year.
As racing spectacles, I thought the races at Hockenheim and
Indy were superb, however this to a large extent was due the 'lottery effect', with idiots
running on the track and rain showers. Something has to be done to make the racing more
exciting and if the amount of turbulence cars produce cannot be regulated, then I would
agree that it is then the track layouts that have to be changed.
On the whole a good season but not a great one. Further it
is difficult to see us ever having a great season unless the individual races can offer
more in the way of overtaking and wheel to wheel stuff.
Looking forward to next year (five months is a long time!)
- will Ferrari still be motivated?, how will Montoya/Williams do? Will Hakkinen drive like
he can for the whole season? Will Jaguar/BAR improve? Can Minardi score a point? -

The 'lows' of the 2000 season were the tirades of opposing
drivers vs. others and insinuations of unsportmanlike conduct. This is motor racing at its
highest order and drivers should be more professional enough to keep unsavory comments to
themselves. They look better that way. They would not want to destroy the reputation
of one another especially that they belong to one organisation of racing drivers. Of
course the other low is one of the accidents wherein one steward died, although by no
fault of any single individual.
The highs were provided by the top drivers (Schumi and Mika) in their on-track battles in
their quest of the championship. The fans were treated to a number of remarkable
maneuvers by both drivers during the season.
Also for the season, we have seen Schumi claim the championship in a car that is evidently
inferior to the McLaren cars. Just for that, his claim to greatness is secured. I
would want to see Hakkinen do the same in the future to show to F1 fans what he can do
with a car that is slower than his present McLaren-Mercedes. Will he look good as he is
now with a slower car? That, I've got to see!!
Perhaps in the future Mercedes could also offer works engines for the other teams just
like Ferrari does to make the field more level in terms of engine hp. Then it will boil
down to set up and driver skill. Then we know who the best are in this present
crop of F1 drivers - Manny P - Philippines
I think there was not much problem for Schumacher to win
the championship except for a couple of races. He proved himself to be the best by winning
the trophy in the Ferrari which is definitely inferior to the McLaren. Button was very
impressive in his first year. It is unfortunate that he will not be driving for Williams
next year. The fight for the fourth place in the constructor's championship was pretty
interesting. Hope we will have a wonderful F1 season in 2001 - Vandana - India
