Reports & Results from other sessions

First Saturday Practice Session Report - Results

Michael Schumacher sets the fastest time of the session ahead of Ralf Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen. Coulthard, Barrichello and Montoya make the top 6.

The times didn't improve much on yesterday's time and the temperature was lower, however Michael Schumacher managed to improve dramatically from Friday setting the overall fastest time. His time this session was 0.1 seconds faster than the best time set on Friday by Mika Hakkinen. Ralf Schumacher also improved a lot setting the second best time just behind Michael while the 2 McLaren's failed to better their times from yesterday perhaps indicating a different program to what the others were running on Friday or simply not showing their true potential. We'll know in qualifying.

It appears that Ferrari. Williams and McLaren are pretty close however BAR are looking strong with Villeneuve in 7th just a fraction slower than Montoya while Panis is 9th. The Jordan's and the Sauber's are also close.

Behind them the 2 Jaguar drivers and Jean Alesi but they are over half a second off the pace of the cars in front of them.

Jacques Villeneuve spun his car and stuck it into the gravel for the second time this weekend. Several other drivers went through the gravel but recovered.
Luciano Burti covered the most number of laps with 18 followed by Olivier Panis with 17 laps. Eddie Irvine and Enrique Bernoldi covered the least number of laps with 10 laps each. Most other drivers covered between 11 and 15 laps.
