Last year Michael put his Ferrari almost a second in front of DC, with Rubens third and the Williams cars much further adrift. At Monaco Juan Pablo showed that the 2002 Williams is much better in a very high downforce, karting track configuration. Ralf convincingly outperformed Juan Pablo last round and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a repeat of that performance here. Montoya does not like the track and could be demotivated after Europe. Ralf is coming off a high in Germany and a convincing (well, as long as you forget the first three cars) performance in Hungary 2001.

David got second last year, he won’t this year. Williams and Ferrari should fill the first two rows with Michael again on the point. The combination of BMW qualifying horsepower and Michelin’s one lap superglue will put the Williams right there among the red cars.

After that it will get interesting. Kimi has spent most of the season starting from 5th, No reason to expect any changes here. David however does perform well on slow tracks and will push the Finn very hard, possibly even pushing the frontrunners.

Trulli should assert himself and Massa will either make a very loud statement to Peter Sauber, or slink off into oblivion. The Saubers however won’t feature in the pointy end of the field this time round. Will the Renaults get the better of McLaren? Unlikely, but its certain that no one else will.

Down the back Mark Webber’s Minardi will be hassling the Jaguars and Bernoldi’s Arrows (assuming they turn up) will be in amongst the Honda powered cars. Yoong will probably be right where he should have been all season, on the sidelines spectating!
