Warm-up Session Report - Results

Ferrari appear to be in good shape for the race after Rubens Barrichello set the fastest time in the warm-up session with Michael Schumacher in second. Ralf Schumacher managed to set the 3rd fastest time and was only a fraction behind Michael. And given that the temperatures are on their way up between now and the race, it will be interesting to see how much that will benefit Ralf and the Williams team.

Eddie Irvine was a surprise 4th possibly indicating a lighter fuel load and a possible 2 stop strategy while David Coulthard only managed 5th and was just under half a second of the pace of Barrichello. Juan Pablo Montoya in the second Williams was 6th with Jarno Trulli in 7th and Mika Hakkinen in 8th and just under a second off the pace!.
The Sauber pair of Nick Heidfeld and Kimi Raikkonen make up the top 10.

There were no major incidents during the session however Jenson Button only managed to set a timed lap in the final 10 minutes of the session. Both Benettons are struggling in 21st and 22nd places even behind the Minardis!
Other slow results were from Frentzen down in 14th and Villeneuve in 17th!

Jos Verstappen and Heinz Harald Frentzen covered the most number of laps with 17 laps each while Jenson Button only managed 8 laps and Mika Hakkinen and Pedro de la Rosa only covered 11 laps each. All other drivers covered between 13 and 16 laps.

With increasing temperatures, the battle between Ferrari and Williams will be very interesting. Whether McLaren will also be able to challenge remains to be seen. The Race starts at 2:00 PM local time. (12:00 PM GMT)
