Jun.19 (GMM) Lewis Hamilton has revealed that one detail about his Ferrari still bothers him – the cockpit is the wrong colour.
Fresh from his breakthrough victory for the Italian team in Barcelona, the seven-time world champion was reflecting on childhood memories of watching Michael Schumacher’s first win for Ferrari 30 years ago.
“I would have been at home on my couch watching that race,” Hamilton recalled. “I was 12.
“Just looking at that red car and thinking, ‘I wonder what it’s like sitting in that red cockpit?'”
Hamilton finally got his answer after joining Ferrari – but discovered one unexpected disappointment.
“My cockpit happens to be white, which I’ve not been too happy about,” he laughed.
“I wanted it to be red like Michael’s. I’ll get it back red at some stage.”
The Briton is referring to the white cockpit surround and engine cover Ferrari introduced this year – following fan backlash about the blue-on-red of main sponsor HP.
Hamilton is relieved he at least has a red suit.
“To be in that red suit, standing in first place in front of that amazing crew. It was really amazing to witness and to see the joy in their eyes,” he said.
