One-year sentence handed down in Doornbos case

Jun.6 (GMM) A man convicted over the violent robbery of former Formula 1 driver Robert Doornbos has been sentenced to one year in prison.

The attack took place outside Doornbos’ home in Amsterdam in March 2023, when the former Red Bull driver was struck with a club and robbed of his Rolex watch and mobile phone.

According to Algemeen Dagblad, the Court of Appeal has now sentenced a 23-year-old Amsterdam man to 12 months in prison, with three months suspended.

The court was critical of the attack.

“This sudden, violent robbery must have been extremely frightening for the victim,” the ruling stated.

“All the more so because he was ambushed by the suspect and his accomplice at his home, where he should have been able to feel safe.”

“The court therefore holds the suspect heavily accountable for all of this.”

Doornbos is covering the Monaco GP for Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport, and sounded confident when predicting the critical front row of the grid for Sunday’s race.

“I say a Ferrari 1-2,” said the 44-year-old.
