Renault rules out Horner talks, vows to keep control

Jun.12 (GMM) Renault Group CEO Francois Provost has moved to shut down speculation linking Christian Horner with Alpine while also insisting the French manufacturer has no intention of relinquishing control of its Formula 1 team.

The comments come amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of Otro Capital’s 24 percent stake in Alpine.

Mercedes recently explored a potential purchase of the shareholding, but those talks appear to have stalled, reportedly because Renault and Otro were unwilling to accept the valuation being offered.

Horner’s name has also surfaced repeatedly in connection with the situation.

However, Provost told the Press Association: “There is no discussion today with Christian,” he said.

The Renault chief also confirmed that negotiations involving Mercedes are no longer progressing.

“I saw there are no further discussions now,” said Provost. “I was not so satisfied to see that we are not progressing.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Otro’s stake, Provost stressed that Renault remains firmly in charge of the team and intends to keep it that way.

“We are assessing the options,” he explained.

“I want the Renault Group to keep the control of our team, whoever could be the successor of Otro.”

Provost also sought to reassure Alpine staff and supporters that the ownership discussions are not affecting the operation of the Formula 1 outfit.

“The first one, is that this Otro issue doesn’t impact us at all as a team because we are in control,” he said.

“And the second point, is that we will keep the control of our Formula 1 team.”
