Monza secures sprint race from 2027

Jul.7 (GMM) Monza will host Formula 1’s sprint format from 2027 after organisers reached a three-year agreement with the sport.

The announcement was made by Automobile Club d’Italia president Geronimo La Russa during the launch of this year’s Italian GP events in Milan.

“We’ve reached an agreement,” La Russa said.

“Starting next year, for three years, we’ll have the Sprint race.”

La Russa also revealed that this year’s Italian GP is already sold out, with organisers adding a temporary grandstand to meet demand.

“A temporary grandstand has been added, which wasn’t planned,” he said.

“It will initially be dedicated to ACI members, but will then be opened to the public.”

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said Monza is set for another memorable weekend following Ferrari’s resurgence and Charles Leclerc’s victory at Silverstone.

“Culture is central to Formula 1, too,” he said.

“Yesterday at Silverstone, there was a huge turnout, and I hope this will also benefit the Monza GP.”

He also pointed to the growing excitement surrounding Italy’s two biggest stars.

“Sunday’s race is sold out, and then we have a Ferrari that’s back in the spotlight, and Kimi Antonelli, who represents our country.

“All the ingredients are there for a major Grand Prix.”
