Hamilton set to extend Ferrari deal – report

Aug.21 (GMM) Lewis Hamilton is expected to extend his Ferrari stay through 2027, with Spanish Formula 1 journalist Carlos Miquel claiming an announcement could come before Monza.

Speaking on El Partidazo de COPE, Miquel said the seven-time world champion’s future is effectively settled.

“Make a note of one name who is definitely going to extend his contract with his current team: Lewis Hamilton with Ferrari,” he said.

“Make a note of it today, because you’ll probably see them announce it just before Monza.”

Hamilton’s original Ferrari agreement was widely understood to contain a 2-plus-1 structure, with the additional season now expected to be activated.

Eurosport Italia reports similarly that Hamilton will remain with Ferrari through at least 2027, with the official confirmation expected around the Italian GP weekend.

Miquel believes the extension would then leave the major teams largely locked down, especially with Verstappen removing uncertainty by committing to Red Bull through 2030.

Hamilton arrived at Zandvoort saying he feels fitter than ever and increasingly positive about Ferrari’s direction.

“The pieces of the puzzle have come together,” said the 41-year-old.

“A lot of things have changed, the engineering, the other processes, the design of the car, and overall we’ve moved in the right direction.”

“They’ve done what I asked for and the results show that it’s all working. Last year, one of the things I always said was that Ferrari should be more innovative.”

Asked about Verstappen’s own new contract, Hamilton said remaining with Red Bull made sense.

“He’s on a great team,” said the Briton.

“He’s been there a long time and they keep going from success to success. It’s always easy to say you’re staying where you’re comfortable.”

“It’s his choice, and it’s not a bad one.”
