First Friday Practice Session Report - Results

Rubens Barrichello sets the fastest time of the session ahead of a surprise Pedro de la Rosa and David Coulthard. Michael Schumacher, Ralf Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen make the top 6.

The circuit appears to be suited to the Michelin runners with 5 of their drivers in the top 10 headed by Pedro de la Rosa in 2nd place.
While Williams appears to be up there with Ferrari and McLaren, it seems that Jaguar and Benetton have improved dramatically. Even if de la Rosa's time was set with a light fuel load, both himself and his team-mate Eddie Irvine were in the top 10. Giancarlo Fisichella has done very well in 9th place. His team-mate Jenson Button continues to struggle though in 19th place.
Jordan, Sauber and BAR were left behind occupying 10th to 15th place with all of them over 2 seconds off the pace.

There were no major incidents during the session however Jos Verstappen had a problem on his first lap and stopped on the track. Jenson Button spun during the session but managed to recover.

Juan Pablo Montoya managed to cover the most number of laps with 22 followed by both Pedro de la Rosa and Luciano Burti with 18 laps each. Jos Verstappen only managed an installation lap while Rubens Barrichello only covered 9 laps while David Coulthard only covered 10.

The session was run sunny conditions with an air temperature of 26 degrees.
