Second Saturday Practice Session Report - Results

Ralf Schumacher set the fastest time of the session ahead of David Coulthard and a surprise Jenson Button. Jarno Trulli in the second Renault was 4th ahead of Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen.
Juan Pablo Montoya was 7th ahead of Rubens Barrichello with Mika Salo and Nick Heidfeld making the top 6.

Once again it seems that the increase in track temperature advantages the Michelin runners In a repeat of what we saw yesterday, 7 Michelin runners are in the top 10 including the top 4 places while in the morning there were equal Michelin and Bridgestone runners with the Ferraris in 1st and 3rd.

A few spins and stalls during the session, the most serious of which was when Felipe Massa stopped on the track and the session had to be stopped to enable the retrieval of the car. Heinz Harald Frentzen continued to suffer problems in his Arrows limiting his running time to just 4 laps this session. Takuma Sato hit the barrier after spinning ending his session while Pedro de la Rosa stopped at the exit of the pit lane. A few drivers spun but recovered including Jacques Villeneuve and Eddie Irvine.

Olivier Panis and Mark Webber covered the most number of laps with 19 followed by Jacques Villeneuve, Giancarlo Fisichella and Allan McNish each with 18 laps. Heinz Harald Frentzen only managed 4 laps, Takuma Sato only did 7, Rubens Barrichello only managed 8 while Kimi Raikkonen did 9. All other drivers covered between 10 and 17 laps.

Overall for both sessions, it was Olivier Panis and Alex Yoong who covered  the most number of laps with 36 laps each. Heinz Harald Frentzen only managed 13 while Rubens Barrichello only did 17.

The top 4 runners have already beaten last year's Pole time set by Michael Schumacher and expect the laps times to drop further during Qualifying so get set for a fascinating session starting at 1:00 PM local time. Our coverage starts at 12:45 local time.
