First Friday Practice Session Report - Results

Once again Michael Schumacher and Ferrari have proved too strong for the opposition. While it is early days, it looks as if the Ferrari package is still too strong for Williams even on this power track. Michael Schumacher managed to set a time that was 0.8 seconds faster than that of Juan Pablo Montoya in second and over 1.2 seconds faster than Ralf's time in 3rd.
Michael's time in this first practice session of the weekend was just over 0.6 seconds slower than the Pole time of last year.
Behind the top 3, Pedro de la Rosa managed 4th in a much improved Jaguar while Jarno Trulli was 5th ahead of Eddie Irvine in 6th.
Disappointment from McLaren with Coulthard only managing 8th and Raikkonen 9th as it seems the Mercedes power can't even match that of the Renault and the Cosworth let alone the Ferrari and BMW.
Rubens Barrichello had a troubled session failing to set a time due to a mechanical problem.

At the back, Alex Yoong made his return following an absence of 2 races. He managed to set a time that was 0.35 seconds faster than that of his team-mate Mark Webber but can he keep it up!

There were no major incidents during the session however a number of drivers went off the track but managed to recover.

Olivier Panis covered the most number of laps with 21 followed by Mark Webber, Alex Yoong and Jenson Button each with 18 laps. Rubens Barrichello covered the least number of laps with 2.

Let's see if Ferrari continues to dominate in the second session!
