First Saturday Practice Session Report - Results

Mika Hakkinen set the fastest time of the session ahead of team-mate David Coulthard reminding everyone that McLaren are still a force to reckon with. Michael Schumacher was 3rd ahead of his brother Ralf Schumacher while Rubens Barrichello was in 5th ahead of Juan Pablo Montoya.

The top 3 are very close with only 2 tenths separating the top 3 while Ralf Schumacher in 4th is half a second behind. There is nothing between 4th, 5th and 6th (the gap being 0.02 seconds!).

The Jordan pair are in 7th and 8th followed by the Sauber pair in 9th and 10th. Panis is in 11th while Villeneuve is in 13th as the BAR appear to be off the pace here. They are split by Jaguar's Eddie Irvine.

There were no major incidents during the session. Several drivers spun but managed to recover including Luciano Burti. Giancarlo Fisichella suffered yet another problem which caused his session to end early. He ended in 18th place while his team-mate Jenson Button was in 21st!

Ralf Schumacher, Luciano Burti, Fernando Alonso and Tarso Marques covered the most number of laps with 16. Juan Pablo Montoya and Eddie Irvine covered 15 laps. Jarno Trulli covered the least number of laps with 10 while Giancarlo Fisichella covered 11 laps. Most other drivers covered between 12 and 14 laps.

Let's see if Ferrari will respond to McLaren in the second session.
