Second Saturday Practice Session Report - Results

Juan Pablo Montoya didn't need long to prove what he is worth. In his 3rd Grand Prix event he sets the fastest time in the 2nd Saturday practice session ahead of both McLarens, his team-mate Ralf Schumacher and Michael Schumacher. Qualifying will show us if McLaren and Ferrari are hiding something.

It does appear though that Ferrari appear to be struggling on this circuit. Neither Michael Schumacher nor Rubens Barrichello managed to improve much during this session but we cannot be definite until qualifying.

Heinz Harald Frentzen was 6th in the Honda powered Jordan which blew up on his last lap of the session. The other Honda runners, Panis in 9th, Trulli in 11th and Villeneuve in 16th all had problems in the session. Perhaps a sign that Honda is under pressure especially given the stunning pace of Williams BMW.

The Sauber team appear to be the team taking advantage of Honda's troubles with Kimi Raikkonen in 8th and Nick Heidfeld in 10th. The Jaguar of Eddie Irvine is in 12th just ahead of team-mate Luciano Burti.

The Benetton team appears to be going backwards, Button is in 19th ahead of team-mate Fisichella in 20th.

Jos Verstappen (15th) covered the most number of laps with 20 followed by Ralf Schumacher, Luciano Burti and Enrique Bernoldi with 17 laps each. Tarso Marques failed to complete a single lap this session. Jarno Trulli only managed 2 and returned to the pits with a major problem, Jacques Villeneuve covered just 3 laps and stopped on the track. Most other drivers covered between 13 and 16 laps.

Qualifying is set to be one of the most exciting in years with 3 teams fighting for pole Williams, McLaren and Ferrari - Who will it be ? Stay tuned.
