First Saturday Practice Session Report - Results

Michael Schumacher sets the fastest time of the session ahead of Mika Hakkinen and Rubens Barrichello. David Coulthard, Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya make the top 6.
This top 6 more likely reflects the grid this afternoon. As expected, Alesi, Frentzen and the 2 Jaguar's were running light fuel loads yesterday. In fact none of those 4 set better times this session than their best times from yesterday. On the other hand the other drivers improved by a second or more over yesterday.

Michael's time was simply stunning, he was the only one to set a time under the 1:35 mark and the time he set is already over 1.1 seconds faster than his Pole time of last year.

The session was a slow one with the drivers only carrying out what they had to do in order to save tyres. Both Jordans only covered 4 laps each and they didn't appear to have any problems preventing them from covering more laps.

There were no major incidents during the session.

Giancarlo Fisichella covered the most number of laps with 16 followed by Ralf Schumacher with 15 and Eddie Irvine and Tomas Enge with 14 laps each. Trulli and Alesi only covered 4 laps while Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello only covered 7 laps each. All other drivers covered between 9 and 12 laps.
