Warm-up Session Report - Results

Michael Schumacher continued his dominance at the Suzuka circuit during the warm-up session setting the fastest time ahead of David Coulthard and Nick Heidfeld. Jarno Trulli, Jean Alesi and Mika Hakkinen make the top 6.

While the times are not really indicative, it appears as if the Michelin tyres were struggling during the session. Frentzen in 8th was the highest placed Michelin runner with de la Rosa in 10th, the only other Michelin runner in the top 10!.
The warm-up session times don't provide accurate information about who will be stronger during the race but the times could provide an indication of pit stop strategy and fuel loads. The lack of pace for the top Michelin runners like Williams (Ralf - 11th, Montoya - 17th) and Benetton (Fisichella - 14th, Button - 15th) could indicate that they will be running a single stop strategy against a 2 stop strategy from most of the Bridgestone runners. Last year was a 2 stop race but the Michelin runners seem to prefer running on used tyres so the only reason for them to stop would be for fuel. This will make for an interesting race!

Jenson Button covered the most number of laps with 16 followed by Giancarlo Fisichella with 15. Eddie Irvine and Juan Pablo Montoya covered the least number of laps with 9 laps each. All other drivers covered between 10 and 14 laps.

There were no major incidents during the session.
The session was run under sunny skies and a temperature of 19 degrees.

Race starts at 2:30 PM local time. Go to the Live Update page for live coverage during the Race.
