Second Saturday Practice Session Report - Results

Michael Schumacher remained at the top of the timesheets following the session even though he didn't improve on his time set in the first session. Kimi Raikkonen set the second fastest time and only 0.021 seconds behind Michael while David Coulthard managed 3rd and 0.275 seconds off the pace.
Rubens Barrichello also failed to improve on his time and remained in 4th while Jenson Button managed to get ahead of the two Williams drivers who ended up 6th and 7th again.

The increased track temperature meant that the Michelin runners started to gain an advantage over the Bridgestones. 7 of the top 10 were on Michelin tyres.

Giancarlo Fisichella had a major accident during the session. He lost his front wing, lost control of the car and went straight into the tyre wall. He got out of his car but was sent to the local hospital for a routine check but it is expected that he will make it for Qualifying.
The session was stopped for around 30 minutes as the marshals worked on repairing the tyre wall damaged by the impact.
A number of drivers spun through the session but all managed to recover.

Felipe Massa covered the most number of laps with 22 while Pedro de la Rosa and Alex Yoong managed 21 laps each. Takuma Sato only covered 5 laps as the team investigated the reason for his team-mate's front wing failure. Fisichella only managed 6 laps before crashing.
Overall Alex Yoong covered the most number of laps with 42 followed by Jarno Trulli with 36. Giancarlo Fisichella and Michael Schumacher covered the least number of laps with 19 laps each.
The 2 Arrows drivers went out with 10 minutes remaining in the session and did an installation lap each. That is the only on-track preparation they have for qualifying. They have a very tough task ahead of them but they should be able to qualify!

With the 2 McLarens fighting back, the 2 Ferraris failing to improve and Williams making another step forward, it looks like we'll have a close Qualifying today and who knows, the Renaults might get involved too!

Qualifying starts at 1:00 PM local time. Our coverage starts at 12:45 PM local time
