First Friday Practice Session Report - Results

The Ferrari duo of Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello started the Spanish Grand Prix weekend on a perfect note setting the fastest times of the day with just 0.061 separating the two. They will be pleased to put over half a second gap between them and their nearest contender Felipe Massa who drives for Sauber but powered by a Ferrari engine.
Kimi Raikkonen was the best of the Michelin runners in 4th ahead of Jarno Trulli in the Renault while Frentzen in the Arrows was a surprise 6th.
Coulthard was 7th ahead of Heidfeld, Fisichella and Bernoldi.

Williams were disappointing with Ralf Schumacher only managing 12th and Juan Pablo Montoya in 15th.

As the teams do most of their testing at the Barcelona track (with the exception of Ferrari), most teams have a clear idea of how to go with regard to set-up and hence the times set by almost every driver didn't improve dramatically.
Excluding Ferrari at the front and Minardi at the back, the 18 cars between them were very close with under 2 seconds separating 3rd place man Massa and 19th placed man McNish.

There were no major incidents during the session however Takuma Sato failed to complete a single lap as his car stopped just after exiting the pits on his installation lap while Alex Yoong and Felipe Massa both had trips across the gravel but recovered.

Olivier Panis and Felipe Massa covered the most number of laps with 19 laps each. They were followed by Ralf Schumacher with 18 laps and Alex Yoong, Giancarlo Fisichella and Jacques Villeneuve with 17 laps each.
Takuma Sato failed to complete any laps while Jarno Trulli and Mika Salo only managed 9 laps each. All other drivers completed between 10 and 16 laps.
