Second Friday Practice Session Report - Results

The Williams pair of Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya top the timesheets on the first day of practice for the Italian Grand Prix. Michael Schumacher, Pedro de la Rosa, Rubens Barrichello and Mika Hakkinen make the top 6.

As expected, Williams have shown their superiority on this type of track with Ralf Schumacher being the only driver to set a time under the 1:25 mark with Montoya 0.4 seconds behind. Michael Schumacher was 3rd with Pedro de la Rosa a surprise 4th although it is expected that he was running a light fuel load. Barrichello was 5th not too far from his team-mate while Hakkinen and Coulthard were 6th and 7th.

The Sauber pair of Nick Heidfeld and Kimi Raikkonen did not participate in this session after they both crashed their cars in the first session.
Eddie Irvine missed out on the majority of the session after spinning out into the gravel on his first flying lap of the session.
Looking at the newcomers, Tomas Enge who is replacing Luciano Burti in the Prost managed 20th while his team-mate Heinz Harald Frentzen was 10th. Alex Yoong was 22nd while Fernando Alonso was 17th fastest.

Giancarlo Fisichella covered the most number of laps this session with 28 followed by Jean Alesi and Rubens Barrichello with 25 laps each. Nick Heidfeld and Kimi Raikkonen missed the session while Eddie Irvine only managed 1 lap.
Overall Fisichella covered a massive 50 laps followed by Bernoldi with 44 laps.

The weather was cloudy with a bit of rain at the start of the session although the track remained dry. Average air temperature was 16 degrees.
