First Saturday Practice Session Report - Results

Juan Pablo Montoya set the fastest time of the session ahead of Rubens Barrichello and Pedro de la Rosa. Villeneuve, Panis and Raikkonen make the top 6. 

The session had the least activity of any practice sessions in recent memory with just 13 drivers setting competitive lap times. Only Kimi Raikkonen and Nick Heidfeld covered a large number of laps due to both of them missing valuable track time yesterday due to separate crashes.

The track was damp from overnight rain and most of the teams didn't bother to go out until the track was dry. It was only until 5 minutes from the end of the session that a large number of drivers decided to go out for a run. Before that, it was almost a duel between Kimi Raikkonen and Nick Heidfeld trading fastest lap times with each lap.

There were no major incidents during the session apart from Heinz Harald Frentzen stopped on the track due to brake problems.

Nick Heidfeld covered 20 laps ahead of Kimi Raikkonen with 19. Michael Schumacher, David Coulthard, Mika Hakkinen and Fernando Alonso only did an installation lap.

The final practice session for today will certainly have more action!
