Second Friday Practice Session Report - Results

It was an eventful session that didn't reflect much on the overall times for Friday practice as rain interrupted most of the session and a only a handful of drivers managed to improve on their times from the morning session.

Michael Schumacher remained at the top of the timesheets ahead of Jarno Trulli and Rubens Barrichello. An impressive Giancarlo Fisichella improved to 4th ahead of Mika Hakkinen and Kimi Raikkonen managed 6th fastest despite this being his first F1 experience on this track.

The rain started falling 15 minutes into the session and stopped a few minutes later but it was enough to keep the track damp for the remainder of the session.

There were a number of incidents during the session with Michael Schumacher hitting the back of Pedro de la Rosa, both drivers managed to get back to the pits but their cars were damaged. Juan Pablo Montoya spun in the wet and hit the barriers while Raikkonen, Alesi and Trulli were just some of the drivers who spun in the wet but recovered. Ralf Schumacher and Fernando Alonso suffered mechanical problems limiting their running times. David Coulthard missed out on the entire session as his car was still being repaired while Jacques Villeneuve and Luciano Burti (who both missed most of the first session) managed to set times during the second session although Burti's times were set under wet conditions.

Jos Verstappen covered the most number of laps with 18 ahead of Nick Heidfeld and Jarno Trulli with 17 laps each. David Coulthard didn't complete any laps while Michael Schumacher and Ralf Schumacher only managed 6 laps. All other drivers covered between 10 and 16 laps.

Overall. Rubens Barrichello covered the most laps today with 34 while David Coulthard only managed his installation lap in the morning.

Due to the changing weather conditions it is hard to read into the times set today however it seems that Ferrari are on the pace while McLaren and Williams are behind at this stage. Jordan, Sauber and Benetton are looking strong.

The weather was cloudy to rainy with an average air temperature of 14 degrees.
