Warm-up Session Report - Results

David Coulthard set the fastest time in the warm-up ahead of Jarno Trulli in the Jordan. Hakkinen managed 3rd fastest but over 0.4 seconds off the pace of Coulthard while Frentzen was 4th ahead of Michael Schumacher who ended over 1.4 seconds off the pace possibly indicating a different strategy to McLaren and Jordan.
Panis was 6th ahead of Raikkonen and Ralf Schumacher while Barrichello continues his disappointing form in 9th with Irvine in 10th place.
Villeneuve only managed 11th while Montoya was in 12th place.
Alonso in the sole Minardi was 17th ahead of the 2 Benettons and the 2 Prosts!

The times set by the drivers indicate that some teams are going for a 2 stop strategy while others will only do one. This was the case last year.

Nick Heidfeld spun off and into the gravel early in the session while Giancarlo Fisichella managed to do a single timed lap after going out in the last minute of the session.

A number of drivers covered the most number of laps with Heinz Harald Frentzen, Ralf Schumacher, Jacques Villeneuve and Jean Alesi all doing 17 laps each. Fisichella did the least number of laps with 4 (and just a single timed lap!). Heidfeld only managed 8 laps before spinning into the gravel. All other drivers covered between 12 and 16 laps.

The session was run under dry conditions with the sun making an appearance during the session however there is a 40% chance of showers during the race.

Pit strategy and the weather conditions are expected to play a big role in the race.
The race starts at 1:00 PM
local time.
