First Friday Practice Session Report - Results

Under mainly wet conditions, Rubens Barrichello set the fastest time of the session over a second ahead of Jenson Button and David Coulthard. Kimi Raikkonen, Eddie Irvine and Giancarlo Fisichella made the top 6.

Michael Schumacher failed to set a time after spinning and stalling on his installation lap, Mika Salo failed to set a lap time following his installation lap while the 2 Arrows drivers didn't appear on the track due to the financial problems their team faces. The stumbling block was the refusal by Cosworth to supply them with engines until they pay for them.

At the start of the session the track was wet but it wasn't raining, the drivers went out and the track started to dry however with 15 minutes remaining, it started to rain again and minutes later the track was all wet again preventing the drivers from improving their lap times.

In addition to Michael Schumacher, a number of driver spun or went off into the gravel as a result of the bad conditions. Felipe Massa went off and got stuck in the gravel while others like de la Rosa, Fisichella, Ralf Schumacher where more fortunate as they managed to recover.

Given the track conditions, it is impossible to draw any conclusions from the times set so far. Lets hope the weather improves over the course of the weekend.

Mark Webber completed the most number of laps with 16 followed by Alex Yoong, Allan McNish and Eddie Irvine all covering 15 laps. Heinz Harald Frentzen and Enrique Bernoldi didn't cover any laps, Michael Schumacher only managed half a lap while Mika Salo only did a single lap.
